What would you do with a 37k check?

well since you lost your car...you prolly need a new one right?

i'd buy a used car for around 5-7K...it won't be as nice as your Bmw, but it's cheap. and you can still find good deals.

then i'd send some to PK, he's got a good cause.

so that leaves you with about 30K left...

i would buy a G35 (when it comes out) and in the meantime i'd buy a whole mess of nice lenses.

then a few other things to take me to the next level, like a crane, dolly system.

also, i'm not sure if you have one, but a laptop would be nice...i'd wait till around april for that though (macbook pro).

so then you still have about 20K, i'd just bank it. never know when you're going to need that, could come in handy.

sounds like something i would do if i had the money...but if you are a pc user, the new intel mobile dual core processors are coming out as well(around march?). not to mention the amd athlon64 4800+ x2's are already in a few laptops already . decisions decisions.

Coffee, glad to hear you are ok. I could imagine how crazy that must of been watching as the pole came down. . I would have been yelling like a little girl.

Just my .02

Technology changes all the time, so don't go for the best new thing. If you have a DVX, stick with that, and get a good set of sticks, a few lights and what not.

But really, pretend like you don't have the money. Put the bulk of it away. Making good films is about your knowledge, passion and skill far more than the kind of gear you have. Barry Green, John Hudson and Jarred Land could shoot a better movie on a cell phone than I could with my DVX. If you want to invest (not spend) in being a filmmaker, use some of that dough to learn how. Buy a few books, maybe go to a few highly recommended seminars. Then use the rest for a well thought out and well developed project. Don't jump into anything. You can always spend the money, but once it's gone, that's it.

If it were me, I'd spend NO MORE than 5k on toys and gear (and make sure I look used and for a bargain) for your current set-up. The rest goes in the bank until you find or develop something that is worth mortgaging your kids future for. This kind of opportunity won't come again.

But that's just me.

Good points.
I just thought they were worth repeating.
