What would you do with a 37k check?

I was looking at them a while back just out of curiosity but don't know how much they are.....

What do they go for?

Don't waste that money on a film camera system you know nothing about. Really, unless you have a specific need and/or plan to get into film in a big way, then don't even consider it.

Crap, I can't believe I didn't use the Office Space line to answer this:

Q. What would you do with a $37K check?

A. Two chicks at the same time.

You don't need 37k to do that...

I would for the types of chicks who would double up on a guy like me.

I love that movie.

Wait for the red camera to come out and weigh your options.

Then:

Make a feature film.

Just my thoughts.

Hmmmmmmm............... Well, if wife and kids are taking care of................ THEN............ ask yourself, Where do I want my filmaking to take me in the next year or two? How much time do I expect to invest in my filmmaking in the next year or two? How important is upgrading (Keeping that au natural look of film or not)?
The answers should probably help you decide how to invest

Then there is a "small country" known as ............... VEGAS!!!!

but seriously, Jay, It's always about smart spending to produce the best project one can put out.
In which gear is usually number one.

It depends on where you want to go with your career and what your skill level is now, but my gut level would be do a low-budget feature and get it out of your system.

I started my first feature years ago based on Kevin Smith spending $27k for Clerks..now there were a lot of numbers left out of that, but it got me going. Now, my feature ended up costing about five times as much and wasn't even as entertaining, but I never have to go back over that hurdle again and i learned more than I ever did doing shorts or otherwise. The movie sucked, but the experience was priceless. The only thing that slowed me down is that it took me about 7 years to get another 30k together to buy all my gear, so that I can now go out and shoot smaller projects.

Then again with that kind of money and not wanting to do a feature i would think in terms of good, basic equipment and then enought money to produce a full year or two's worth of great spec commercials, shorts, etc.

This is just me, but you asked. :)

Again, i'm glad that you're alright.

Cash it. Right now. Deposit it, before it gets lost or stolen or whatever.

And then I'd send a little over to PK at Isara.com. Even fifty bucks means that a whole truckload of Thai kids get helmets for their heads or they get to go to the movies at least once in their lives.

After that, I'd find a way to put it to work for you. Don't just torch it, build something with it. How many times will 37 large plop in your lap?

Above all, be glad you walked away from that crash -- that's just nutty how that happened, and we're all glad you're okay! :)

I was gonna say 'Buy a house' and then realized you don't live in San Diego so you probably already have one.

I agree with BG

Hook PK up with some ducket's or...........................

Fly PK out to Wilmington when the crew is out there and we can all goto Atlantic City for the weekend

Yea, give some to PK, and use the rest to plan a hiest, assemble a crack team of experts and go after Fort Knox..

Actually forget the last part, otherwise you'll end up in prison and be wondering all day long thinking "It looked good on paper, what went wrong? I even wore the same pants as Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible darn.." :)

well since you lost your car...you prolly need a new one right?

i'd buy a used car for around 5-7K...it won't be as nice as your Bmw, but it's cheap. and you can still find good deals.

then i'd send some to PK, he's got a good cause.

so that leaves you with about 30K left...

i would buy a G35 (when it comes out) and in the meantime i'd buy a whole mess of nice lenses.

then a few other things to take me to the next level, like a crane, dolly system.

also, i'm not sure if you have one, but a laptop would be nice...i'd wait till around april for that though (macbook pro).

so then you still have about 20K, i'd just bank it. never know when you're going to need that, could come in handy.

By the way, I don't mean to be a downer here, I mean who wouldn't love to have a 37K check? But keep in mind that a major reason that wreck didn't kill you seems to be because of the quality of car you were driving.

Personally - I would think twice about buying a car that couldn't have handled the wreck you had. But that's just me.

Then again - I would probably take any advice from a wookie in a tux with a grain of salt.

they are actually shipping those out starting in february. you can pre-order right now.

anything that's 4-5X faster i'm sure people will like. but as with any new technology, there will be kinks. i'm just waiting for the G5s to be upgraded. those things will be SICK.

I wouldn't be so quick to take Apple's word that the new laptops will be "4-5X" faster. Here is the truth about the new iMac tests.
