C300: what would really make the Canon 1DC irresistible: peaking, waveform, drop to <$10K

what would really make the Canon 1DC irresistible: peaking, waveform, drop to <$10K

Coming from a video background, I'm so grateful to have zebra, peaking, and above all a waveform monitor on my C300.

So I'm puzzled as to why Canon didn't include all three or at least one of these on the 1DC since it belongs to the C-line. The C100, C300 and C500 all have these indispensable focusing and exposure tools, so why not the 1DC? It's a DSLR but it's part of the C-line. And as Philip Bloom said, you're essentially paying for a 1DX with much better film making options…4K above all.

For me personally, what would make this camera truly irresistible would be a firmware update that adds:
• zebra, focus peaking, and above all an internal waveform display
• adjustable Motion Jpeg compression

• And a 20% drop in the 1DC's price from $12K to under $10K.

Dropping the price by 20% to under $10K would make the 1DC far more competitive and less complicated to purchase. When I tried to buy a 1DC using BillmeLater to buy it over a six month period, I found it impossible to get a credit line beyond $10K. Even though I had paid off a previous balance well ahead of time when I purchased my Sony FS700 with BillmeLater.

I was then advised that I could purchase two $1,000 gift cards from B&H, and pay off the remainder through BillmeLater. So I decided to go ahead with the gift card purchase. But when my B&H gift card package arrived via UPS, I discovered to my astonishment that the gift cards were missing. I reported this to UPS and will inform B&H tomorrow. But there should be a way on B&H's web site to sign up for online gift cards rather than have them sent through the mail. I don't know if the envelope came unglued in shipping or worse, but it's very frustrating.

Anyway, if the 1DC were to drop in price by 20% to $9,600, and you were buying from B&H and wanted to go the six month route via BillmeLater, you could do the whole purchase in one transaction as opposed to three separate ones, and still have enough money left over to buy a 64GB Sandisk Extreme Pro CF card.

Despite the 1DC's few shortcomings (no zebra, no peaking, no waveform), I wanted the 1DC so badly after seeing all the amazing 4K footage and Philip Bloom's review, that I was on the verge of buying one until I read this:

Hopefully there'll be a firmware update coming quite soon from Canon. If it's unreasonable to expect Canon to lower the price of the 1DC to below $10K, then perhaps it's just best to wait. 2013 looks to be an exciting year for 4K acquisition. And sooner or later all camera prices drop. It's just a question of when.
