What will the CCD's HVX-200 be?

..im stil not sold on it having a tape transport.. they may have just added regular DV so that you could stream it out via firewire and record it on an external DV device.

that said i guess id be a happier camper if it had it onboad.. i mean.. why not? you dont have to use it if you dont want to. but for some reason im excited about the possibility of it being completely tapeless as well. ..either way.. bring it on!

If there *is* a tape transport, it would only be for DV and not DVCPRO-HD. Jan has said just the heads and mechanics would cost $6400 dollars, so it's 100%, there's no DVCPRO-HD tape drive. ~reservoir~

Jarred got pissed and said i was wrong

but I was on the money

JVC and Panasonic will be using a

Matsushita 3x 1/3 inch Progressive Scan CCD System

in the

JVC GY-HD100U

&

Panasonic HVX-200U

Research and development costs are cut in half (You would do the same thing)

i've 'heard' this before. after all isn't Matsushita the largest stake holder in JVC?

i would dare say that if you are willing to buy a JVC instead of the Pana, then spend the savings on some sort of RAID system (via uncompressed cable) you would have a better final image [?] - considering the JVC has removable lens and all.

don't shoot me! i'm a techi novice!

Na as new to this as you say you are your on the money,

you could theoretically even hook up those new P2 external VCR's to the firewire out of the JVC GY-HD100U and have all those options (P2 is 4 hi speed SD cards in raid)

or even

new companies will release external harddrives for cams a la firestore with extra built in memory buffers like its own 128MB of ram on top of the 8-16MB of cache on hard drives

I would start a company like this if i had the resources, everyone would have a $300-600 external firewire dv hard drive with a LCD lithium battery 128MB ddr ram(sodimm) a IBM chip(for I/O) =) and bad/good part you pick whatever hard drive you want buy it separate so $450 for my box and $100-200 for a 80GB HUD

because of the IBM I/O chip with the 128mb DDR buffer it would be able to handle DV input HDV input 4:2:2 color so any slow downs that might occur in the hard drive the 128MB buffer will hold things down (sort of like the first CD burners with their cache)

What on earth are you talking about? If the price of P2 cards is a problem to this person, then there is no way they'll buy into a AJ-SPD850 P2 studio deck to record "uncompressed HD from the firewire out." That is nowhere near a reality.
The firewire output from any camera is compressed and the P2 deck records in
standard definition. Currently there are no HD-capable P2 studio recorders.

Someday, yes. Probably not until we're into terabytes and much faster read/write
times, hence higher buffer requirements. Right now that extra buffer would be moot.

So, what does 300-600 dollars buy? An enclosure with a place for a battery?
That sounds exactly like a bad deal. That's why I haven't bought a Firestore.
What would be ideal is to be able to buy a high speed mobile hard drive inside
of a bus-powered firewire enclosure for 300, hit record, then BAM! It works.

The world, in my humble opinion, does not need another clunky Firestore-type
device that requries another battery to think about and still have to change drives.
Lose the Firestore and use only the drives. THAT is forward thinking.

I am not familiar with the IBM I/O chip. In regards to the 128mb DDR buffer and being
able to handle "DV input HDV input 4:2:2 color" I have no idea what you are trying to
prove. MiniDV, DVCAM, and DVCPRO are not 4:2:2 color. Neither is HDV.
Sony DigiBeta is and so is Panasonic DVCPRO-50. Panasonic DVCPRO-HD is 4:2:2.
I'll leave out Thomson, Phillips, Ikegami and others since it's irrelevant.
Point is: HDV is not 4:2:2 color.

The thing that several have tried to emphasize on this board is this:
HDV is a 19 megabits per second format with 4:2:0 color (video and audio)
MiniDV is a 25 megabits per second format with 4:1:1 color (video and audio)
DVCPRO-HD is a 100 megabits per second format with 4:2:2 color (video and audio)

As you can see, DVCPRO-HD is five times the data rate as HDV. An enlarged
buffer isn't necessary for HDV. And, probably not for DVCPRO-HD, either.
What you really need is a drive with higher performace, which until recently
required the use of a high speed 3.5" drive and higher battery/power requirements.

That was recently eliminated when Hitachi announced the evolution of the 2.5"
drive from 4200, to 5400, to now 7200rpms and plenty of sustained data rate
to handle HD in mobile applications.

AMEN Brother!! Hitachi steps in right at the nick of time!! ~reservoir~

YES, YES, LEBROZ.....I know Hitachi HD's were formerly IBM hard drives...No need to go on another IBM *ownz* crusade!! They are the B-0-M-B!!
