I have been having issues with my HVX and can't seem to get a handle on the problem. Here is a clip. As you notice the edges are pretty mess up.

My camera work great except for the head jack for my headphones wasn't working so I sent it out to get it fix. While they were fixing it they said that there were new updates for my camera and they will update it. So now I'm filming and I have issues that I have never seen before so I don't know if it is just a bad setting or if something happen to the camera with the new updates or?????

I'm shooting a feature and need to find a way to fix this problem.

Here are the camera settings;

Scene File;
Operation type (Film Camera), Frame Rate (24), Syncro Scan (180.0d), Detail Level (0), V Detail Level (0), Detail Coring (0), Chroma Level (+7), Chroma Phase (0), Color Temp (0), Master Ped (-5), A.Iris Level (-2), News Gamma (Off), Gamma (Cinelike D), Knee (Auto), Matrix (Cine-Like), Skin Tone Dtl (Off), V Detail Frew (Thin).

Camera Setup;
Aspect Conv (Normal).

SW MODE;
Mid Gain (6dB), High Gain (12dB), ATW (Off)

AUTO SW;
A. Iris (On), AGC (6dB), ATW (On), AF (On).

RECORDING SETUP;

Rec Format (720p/24pn), 480i Rec Mode (Dvcpro50), Rec Function (Normal), One Shot Time (1F), Interval Time (2F), Prefec Mode (Off), Mic ALC (On), Mic gain1 (-50dB), Mic Gain2 (-50dB), 25M Rec Ch Sel (2ch), TC Mode (DF).

AV IN/OUT SETUP;
CMNT Out SEL (1080i). HP Mode (Recording).

The footage may not look bad to some people but it sure bothers me.

Thanks

Somebody got to know? Is it the setting or is the camera mess up and needs fixing? If it is Just the SETTING and that someone can fix it for me over the email so I can do the adjustments and get back on track I will give them a V8000HD Monitor with hood and carrying case.

I have no idea. To me the footage kind of looks like you shot DV to tape, but the Youtube clip had the option of 720, so I'm guessing that's it's not DV.

You are shooting to P2, correct? Not tape?

wow, I say they screwed up in the repair, unless you are using some type of lens or something. But on a positive note, you can go in your edit program and scale up the footage a little to get rid of that. Unless it's your NLE that is causing it. Vegas has a border effect that looks similar to that.

The footage looks ok to me, except for that small vertical thin border on the right. As Luis suggests, you could scale that up easily to eliminate that, but if your shots are always doing that, maybe your encoding is causing that. Do you see that when playing back in camera? Have you tried viewing that direct from camera to an external monitor?

I'm editing on Vegas but I see it in the viewfinder also. I have shots that are much worst I will have to pull them out and upload.

DGW - How do I fix the encoding? I will pull some footage from last year film shoot and put it with this year film shoot so you can see the differences. Just got in from filming but heading out the door to go over tomorrow film shoot.

Looks bad for 720p. Way too blocky. Actually, it looks bad even for 480p. Maybe it was shot in DV THICK mode, or in DV interlaced?

hey Cranky, I think he just did a quick render for youtube, but I think he's talking about that vertical black line on the right of the screen.

Hey New Zealand, are we on track here? are you saying that your problem is the black line on the edge on the right?

I thought he meant the edges of the people & objects, the blockiness, etc.

You are talking about this stuff?

I just took a closer look at your settings and you do have your Chroma Level at 7, which I believe is the maximum. You also have your Detail at 0, and I think most users recommend setting that a little below zero.

And if AGC is what I think it is (Automatic Gain Control), you should turn it off.

Yes you have it right the edges are bad and some footage it is really bad. I'm using the preset setting from Panasonic 24film (Chroma/Detail). I will drop the Chroma and Detail both down and switch AGC to off. I will get back to you after the test results.

It still there even after changing the chroma/detail. I don't want to say who was the one that worked on the camera since they are part of my film project but I will email them to see if they can trouble shoot it for me. Not sure if the updates on the camera would effect it in anyway. But hopefully they will maybe have an idea.
