GH3 What tripod /head for gh3?

so the reason why my tripod wil not work is that the central screw is unscrewable. that makes hard to work with any head i suppose

If this is the tripod you own, I don't see a problem using it with the Benro S6 video head. It looks like your tripod has a 3/8 inch threaded bolt in the center of the column, which is the same as my old Gitzo Studex 320 tripod.

that is. but you know how it works? P1020087.JPG the central screw is moveable . either in the central column or unscrewing it and putting in the monopod. so it is not firm. when the head turn lefy the scre will unscrew, getting loose

This is similar to the center bolt in my Gitzo Studex 320 tripod...

If I was to buy another Manfrotto tripod I would make sure to remove all of the locking screws, so this stuck video head problem never occurs again.

In general, when using locking screws, it is a good idea to apply a dab (but just a dab!) of lubricant; I personally like dry lubricants - which is super useful for many applications, like I routinely spray dry teflon lube into locks and never have them seize up or damage the key, and they don't leak or smear. You can use ordinary lubricants, but sometimes those leak out over time and get stuff dirty.

thanks dingo. i see now that the system it is just the same, and it make is me wonder where is the problem then?can't thnk of what.material?the thread it is not good enough and the screw stay inside with a little movement?

you know what. i can see, once the screw is weell screwed in the head and also in the centrla colum,if i move the head side-side, that mean a lateral movemtne, i can see the screw moving a little bit inside the central colum.like if it not firm inside.and it does even alone.the screw screwed inside the central column, if i try to mive it, it moves alittle bit side -side.so with the heavineas of the manfrotto head the movemnte grows and it it not nice

With the Gitzo tripod the round camera plate that attaches to the center column locks the threaded 3/8 inch bolt to the column, so the bolt does not move.

In your photo it looks like the threaded bolt has a nut in the middle. Is there a way to tighten the nut with a wrench ?

no, the nut goes in the central of the plastic knob used to sit against head.if i screw the crew in the head's thread stand firm, when i scew it in d the central column thred it is a little bit loose.what i am thinking to faind a longer bar to screw so that may be coul be stronger, and possibly a double nut stsyem to make it stand firm better.or..may be considering another tripod.but it is new..never used...

you can see P1020088.JPG and as posyed before, that's how it goesmanfrotto.jpg . the number 2 is the bottom of the previuous pic. there is no way to avoid spinning the screw if i turn it left

i have tested it again, locking the plkate tothe center colum...now the head is moving a little in the screw.when it is maximun right ok.if i turn 180 left that unscrewing make the head a little bit loose.it is not muche but still a little.i pretend the head firm!i think i longer scre could fix, so that can stay enough both inside head and inside central column

Can you make a rubber or cardboard gasket to put between the camera plate and the center column?

I am thinking that maybe you can make the camera plate fit tighter to the center column.

i will try..but for last test now it was the head moving around the screw.it depends probably on how much screw is inside the column adn how much inside the head.it the screw was longer would fit enough both.i will try the gasket anyway!:)

also if i understand well, with every tripod this head, when turning left, will work on the unscrew instead that on the bootom plate of the head, like when turning right.so there is noa djustment, friction to set for the panning movement, as it is related to unscrewing not to the head mechanism(at least when going left)

Yes, the Benro S6 has no adjustment for the amount of panning drag. You have to buy a much more expensive head to get both proper counter-balance and panning drag adjustment. ( like the Sachtler ACE tripod )

but hdv501 has it!in the previus pic you can see the plate numebr 1..that is the plate where the hdv501 should turn on.and it has a knob to adjust the friciton and a lock. i have tested with the extension tube of the tripod that has a fidex screw.no change.clockwise, when is screwed, it turn with that plate correctly.as soon as i turn antuclockwise it unscrew.i think it MUST work with more screw other than the central one

Today i received the Benro S6.Thanks Dingo for the info about it.It is much better for me than manfrotto.Much better in size and in weight, and above all it works much better with my tripod. I can now do panoramica movement properly(just sometimes a little strange thing..but can be solved i think..)
