What tripod/head are you using with your T2i?

I'm thinking about going with the Manfrotto 190XPROB and the Manfrotto 322RC2 Joystick Head Short.. I would go with a true fluid head that's ment for video but they're so expensive.. I think I can live without panning for now.

Post up what you're currently using with your t2i/7D and it's pros/cons.

i use a Manfrotto 516, its overkill but works wonderfully well :)

But then i work with a lot of bigger cameras. You should be able to find an older 501 setup for not too much cash.

That would definitely be adequate for a small still camera and still small and light enough to carry around.

If i'm going mobile I use a velbon CX 480. great little head for still cameras and nice and light.

Thanks for sharing that Moojangles, I'll have to look into the Manfrotto 516. I'm not too concerned about weight.. Just want something that's very sturdy.

I Use this Kit: Manfrotto 701 HD head with 190XB legs. ONly $227. It works great. I have another much larger manfrotto 503 head and some much larger legs that I used for my 16mm motion picture camera, but that's overkill.

The 701 / 190xb kit is GREAT for the 7d. Light and compact. It's really all you need.

Oh yes, get a leveller. This is a HUGE help for getting the tripod level. $74

Manfrotto has a lot of legs with what seems like few differences, it can be confusing. Does anyone have any advice on which are the best for a DSLR under $200?

I tried using the t2i on a cheap $15 target tripod outdoors because it was easy to carry around. For the most part it works, just when it gets a bit windy it shakes it. So you need to have some good strong legs/sticks on the tripod. Something that locks at the bottom would probably be ideal. But for the most part, I think you can get away with using a cheaper tripod if you don't shoot outside too much.

Indoors I used my heavier bogen tripod. Paid $100 for it off craigslist a few years ago. Always buy used if you can, you save money and you are helping some filmmaker out who could probably use the money.

I use a 701HDV with a 190xdb...a little different from the "xb" mentioned above (now quite sure of the differences though). I think this is a wonderful setup...but may want to get a ground spreader so I can sandbag it since I use my zaza slider with this.

Wow, thanks for the replies everyone. I just went ahead and ordered the Manfrotto 190XPROB... now all I'm left with is the head. For those of you who mentioned the 701.. how's the panning? Of coarse I know it's probably not gonna be as good as those $500+ fluid heads but is it enough to get by? And also what about the 501HDV? Is it worth the extra $50.

the 701 is a very good head with very smooth pans and tilts. I love it and it's fairly cheap. the 190 legs have a feature that I really like. You can remove the center column bar, and then the fluid head sits only 3 inches off the ground. Really useful for low angle tripod shots. There are several versions of the 190 legs. Don't get the cheapest version, as they don't have quick release, nor the removable column feature.

oh and a couple more questions.. the 701 has 2 different version i believe? What's the difference between the 701HDV and the 701 RC2?
