GH2 What the best (cheapest) slider out there?

konova slider. uses bearings and is affordable. i plan to get one. its not dead silent but thats the compromise

If you're the handy type, i just built one out of an off cut from an aluminum pool fence. 700mm x 200mm . Total cost $28. It breaks down very small for airline travel, weighs less than a 1kg. Works beautiful, very smooth and quick to assemble.

You will recognize the ends and the rails as the powder-coated pool fence, i just removed the middle rail (you can see the holes inside the ends)

There is threaded rod running insider the rails to pull it all together, has door stops as feet and the rollers are available from Yacht Chandler. Carriage is just an off -cut alum box section. Nylon Lock nuts adjust the rollers.

There is more than a 2-3 week wait for the Philip Bloom Pocket Dolly as you cannot even order it. They make them in batches & they sell out within minutes of appearing on the website. It is nice but expensive. The cheaper regular non-signature Kessler Pocket Dolly is just as nice. I don't have either although I have used both. I use either the Glidetrack Hybrid or my new purchase the Konova slider which works well & is good value at $329 delivered. It even comes in a nice canvas carrying case like the PB PD.

zazzacast, it's almost impossible to get your slider in Australia. Both the NZ and Au stockists of igus rails never reply to product inquireries, Amazon don't ship to Au, so I was foleft with no option but to make my own. The original poster also lives in Au.

Well that bites! I thought those distributors in Australia were working for people..... you tried both?
Worse case, I'd be glad to help if I can... feel free to PM me. I do ship to AU all the time.

ZazaCast, that link to Amazon you posted = Currently unavailable. We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock.

From contact I've had with others in Au wanting your slider, the sales depts of igus resellers aren't very interested in shipping single purchases, so basically ignore them.

Why don't you scout for a stockists/reseller of your own model/ build here in AU/NZ?

Nice, I'm thinking to do something like this but with a mount for tripod.

That's easy to do, i use a tripod or any support on either end. Two of the cheap 500watt garage light stands are very stable if weight is not an issue, can't beat the price.

Honestly, i would rather spend $1000 on a new lens than a very simple piece of support equipment like a slider. Your client may not know who Philip Bloom is so paying for the privilege of having his name on it may not impress them.

Have a simple motor I'm working on for easy attachment for motion, will be off the shelf parts, no belts. Share here soon.

Here's a sample clip from the DIY slider, as good as may Pro model as far i as i can see. It is after all just a simple wheel on rails.

I contacted a reseller here in melbourne who was happy to help. got a quote on prices too. it ended up being around 200-250bucks for rail and carriage alone so i left it at that. for a couple bucks more ill just get a konova thats pre built ready to go, and it comes with a bag..lol.
