I have 16gb and 32gb cards, I've not used 64gb, mostly out of fear that if i'm going to lose footage that it's not going to be that much. Does anyone use 64gb cards and what's your preferred brand? Looking to purchase some more cards, any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
used to record a 2 hour reception, swapped out the battery in the middle of recording, and when I put in the new battery and turned on the camera
the camera says "do you wish to recover your lost footage", I say yes, it took me 2 mins, but all clips were still there
basically, Ive been using sandisk for 7 years now and not have any problem with it, except once I broke a 8GB SD card. I put it into my wallet, and sit on it. and the card was undetectable since then.
btw, I use Extreme pro ONLY.
plus, there is a equal chance for losing footage if you use 2gb or 128gb. Just how you manage them, if you are a careless person Like me then youd better stick with larger cap cards, since there is a great chance I lose the cards ! better keep it inside the camera
I'm still using several Class 10 16GB Panasonic SD cards I bought two years ago and added a few SanDisk Extreme 16GB for the C100 and SanDisk Extreme 32GB for the C300. I prefer smaller cards that gets me around 45 minutes to 60 min record per card.
When I bought my C100 at AbelCine in NY a couple of months ago, they recommended Sandisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s Class 10 cards. Bought two 32GB cards with the camera. Have not experienced any problems.
I have 24x Transcend 16GB Class 10 cards, 8x SanDisk 32GB cards and 16x old Transcend Class 6 cards that used to be for the EX1 but are now DSLR cards. There's also 8x Patriot cards in MXM adaptors, but that's not for the C100.
So, basically, I used to love to shoot with 16GB cards as that spreads the risk, but now shoot with 32GB cards in 'Dual Record' mode like Paul Trunkfield. The Transcends have never missed a beat. The SanDisk cards don't seem to get on well with my Canon T2i/550D (the occasional 'recording was stopped' message) so the DSLR is a Transcend-only zone.
If I need long records, I'll use my Pix220 with 2x 32GB cards in 'Swap over' mode as a backup.
Bottom line: if you are shooting lots of short clips (150-300 clips per session), 16GB cards seem to load faster into FCPX. Longer clips can happily sit on a 32GB card. If you present a 32GB card with 400+ clips on it, be prepared for a wait whilst your NLE chews on all that data.
