What not to do w/ YOur DVX!

*whenever there is a tape inside... and therefore the hour meter of the camera is ticking.*

Partially true. After each shot drum rotating 5 minutes (this is tape protection mechanism). When standby is turned on in menu...same thing, 5 min. and drum stops. Counter measures only when drum is rotating.
Personally I make many "live shots" without recording to tape...straight to big screen and standby always on. There would be hundreds of hours on my counter...but no, only 60.

Right....but many users dont know about the standby mode....I feel. so if they have not turned it on (as mostly they dont), the camera hour meter will keep piling Hours on account of head usage. Even if the standby mode is on, there is still unnecessary head use going on for several minutes.

It is not only important in terms of resale value of the cameraas someone mentioned above but more so in terms of the pro quality of ur video capture. I understand you may have to get the heads replaced any time after 1000 hours on the meter....that means paying an additional 600-700 dollars.

DO NOT use your camera without protective UV filter. I know there would be unwanted flares sometimes and maybe "not so sharp" picture, but if something happens to front glass...whole DVX lens costs waaay too much compared to some filter. Always good to know that when you clean your front glass (sometimes with hurry) then you possibly scratch only relatively cheap filter.

DO NOT have soccer balls kicked around camera. (Maybe the 100B will have a stout handle, and thus not break off). Not with my camera!

explain why you can't plug firewire into your cam while it's on? I do it all the time.
You probably don't have a Mac.

Apparently there's some power issue between Macs and DVXes, and if you hot-plug the DVX into a Mac there's a chance you could fry the firewire port on the DVX.

I hot-plug on the PC all the time and never have had an issue, but I've read probably dozens of reports from Mac users with fried firewire ports on their DVXes.

Oh geez, my friends always make me upload footage for them hotplugging to their powerbooks. I guess I've been fortunate and haven't fried my port, I'm glad I know this now, though.
