Hi,

I have found some FD lenses on ebay.

Now I am also hunting for ND Filters now. Can someone tell me what are the filter dimensions of the following lenses?
FD 28mm f2.8 (maybe 52mm)
FD 50mm f1.4 (maybe 52mm)
FD 100mm f2.8 (maybe 55mm)
FD 70-210 f3.5 (maybe 55mm)

And I also have Lumix 14-42mm(52mm) and 20mm(46mm) pancake lens, so please suggest me what ND filter will be efficient for me with step rings.
:undecided
What are the options? What do you use?
Normal ND? Fader ND? with what step-up/down rings?
I already have 72mm Polarizer.

Thanks!

if you already have a 72mm pola, then do the right thing and get a 72mm ND, plus a set of step up ring adapters.. you find them cheap on ebay, i got the set from 48mm to 77mm from hong kong .. think i paid 10$ for them ..
anyway if i remember correctly, the 28mm fd is 52mm diam. , the 50mm lens is 58mm diam..
both lenses do not rotate when focusing, which is good..
i actually have 2 nd's , but use just polarizer most of the time.. only time i used pola + nd6 was on sunny day in the mountains covered with snow...

i bought a 62mm ND fader, its really good not having to unscrew and re-screw fixed ND's.

i had 2 fixed ND filters, one was a ND4 and the other ND8 = max ND12.

the ND fader goes from ND2 to ND400, so a huge range in one filter.

people say buy your filters in a larger size, so any future lenses you buy with larger filter threads will fit with step up rings.
example: don't buy a 52mm ND fader or any filters of that size as any lens that has a larger thread wont work with it. 52mm being pretty small.

i bought a 62mm fader and a bunch of cheap step up rings from ebay.

52mm(50mm f1.4 & 28mm f2.8 canon fd's) to 62mm
46mm(pancake) to 52mm
52mm to 62mm

i use a 46mm - 52mm ring screwed onto a 52mm - 62mm ring, then screw the 62mm fader on and use it on my 46mm threaded pancake lens as seen below.

from left to right
LA7200 anamorphic lens - 62mm ND fader - 62-52 step up ring - 52-46 step up ring - pancake lens - GH1

if your canon lenses have the front caps, it usually says on the inside of them.

I got 2 fader NDs. 52mm and 72mm.

Many vintage lenses have 52mm filter thread. I'm so lazy to insert multiple step-up rings each time. So I got 52mm fader ND. I used a step-ring for the pancake to use the filter. It's compact and light. Less chance to burn out the pancake's AF motor. :) i love pancake too much.

77 vs 72mm fader nd. I decided to get 72mm. I thought my chance of getting 77mm lens in the future is slim. 14-140 has 62mm. the expected brighter zooms gotta have bigger filter size like 67mm of Oly 14-54 ii.

terra1, that's cool setup you got. When the pancake moves the focus ring back and forth, the fixated LA7200 shouldn't cause any issue, right? The beauty of CDAF.
