What my F35 colleages think of this?

The shot of the girl standing just outside the room, on the waterfront, looks great. The shot of her inside the car looks good too. The rest look a little off. Could be the grading.

The problem is, nothing shot at 5000 ISO is ever going to look "film-like", because film simply never went anywhere near that high. I find myself struggling with the 800 ISO of the F65 enough times (although there are times I am grateful for it).

Is same with F55 too. Look always like video. But something with varicam looks better. I think colors and also high lights looks nicer than F55.

Historically Panasonic's "out of the box" settings always were more pleasing to the eye than Sony's. F35 and F65 aside, it always took a bit of tweaking to get a great picture out of a Sony (artistically), one reason I think a lot of people disliked them.

Sony broadcast BVW cameras 'out of the box' were always crappy, but could be set-up to a nice picture. The same with the two previous generations of VariCam's(tape and P2). Out of the box I thought the image was crap, but once I got them set-up, beautiful. Hell, I still love the images to this day. But Sony seemed to shift in the early 2000's. My D35WS looked pretty good 'ootb'(and incredible after Roger Macie got done with it) and I always thought the F900 looked good, too. And while not mind blowing, even the 'standard' setting on the F55 is OK- decent contrast and color.

But I'm like a lot of people, I think a lot of the newer generation of 'digital cinema' cameras just have a 'video' look to them that seems to be hard to shake: The C300mkII, the new s35 Vari, the F5/55. I can't quite place my finger on it… Part of it seems to be the motion rendering, but the rest… Is the image just too clean?

The F900 was great but still benefitted from tweaking. Sadly a lot of people shot with the Sony 750 and assumed the F900 was the same, when it was quite different.

They can all benefit from tweaking, no doubt, but it was actually an image that could be used 'as is' without major posting.

Current Sony cameras IMO all exhibit "the Sony look" including F5/ F55 which is arguably fine for broadcast.

The exception F35 and F65, one very old by today's standards , the other not even sure it's still in production?

The demand for the F65 is low enough that I wouldn't expect there to be a full time assembly line. I would expect they have some available stock to ship to resellers, and will only make additional units when that stock is nearly depleted or they otherwise sense impending demand. So, it's possible for it to both not be in active production but also not be discontinued.

Further, the F65 is their flagship product. I don't expect it will be officially discontinued until it's successor has been officially announced, whether that is next year or 2018. It's a prestige thing, if nothing else.

the video was videoish to me aswell and in the beginning clips the blacks were too noisy or the grain pattern was too digital looking. Im convinced now that the only way to truely achieve that film LOOK is with the top big dogs F35,F65, Arri and amazing lighting and precision camera movement. Everythings has to be dialed in.

Correct. Also, the F65, F35 and Alexa were never made on assembly lines anyway. They are hand-built.
