C100: What Monitor?

Hi Guys,

Interested to hear what peoples monitor options are for the Canon C100

SmallHD, Ikan, Sony, Marshall?

I was looking at the 5 inch marshall as the SMALLHD are quite pricey as great as they are.

The atomos ninjablade is a great 5,5 inch 720p monitor and can record hdmi at the same time.
If you can afford it it's a nobrainer

I was just researching this myself and even though I have the Ninja2 I need something bigger so have been looking at the SmallHD AC7 which seems to be the best bang for the buck out there. Also having a 2.35 frame guide is essential to me (I currently have one drawn on my Ninja2 in sharpie )

My 'go to' on-cam monitor is my SmallHD DP7Pro OLED. Great picture, light weight, tons of features. My main 'big monitor' is the Sony PVM-1741 17" OLED. I have two more SmallHD DP6's(LCD) and three Panasonic LCD's(1710, 900A & 910). It's rare when I use one of the LCD monitors, now. Although the Pannny 910 does have a great picture, too.

I'm using either a smallHD EVF or the SmallHD 5.6" LCD. i like them both a lot especially the EVF for pulling focus but...the rotary dials on both units have gotten seriously sloppy / loosie goosie. they are very irratic! bummer since i like everything else about them.

i am not a heavy user but still these units both exhibit the same thing. as much as i like the SmallHD vibe i think ill be looking to other companies for future purchases.

Yup,

I was going to get a Ninja STAR for my 422 recording to pro res.

Monitor wise SmallHD looks the best. If I can get a used Atomos Ninja 2 or Blade that may seem a better option.

If you're primarily looking for a monitor, then the Blade is a much better option over the Ninja2. HD vs SD resolution.

I honestly don't have much to compare it to, but the SmallHD AC7 OLED monitor is really nice. It's really light and almost the perfect size to hang off the camera and still get critical focus and framing. It would be nice if the bezel was smaller and the menu system was better, but I consider it well worth the money.

Convergent Design Odyssey 7 HD Monitor/Recorder is supposed to hit this month.

Cost is $1295 in the USA.

The Atomos Ninja recorders for $695 and $995 are the most frequently added accessories for C100 cameras.

These price points make it very hard to market monitors that don't also include recorders.

Its a bit pricey for what I need. Thanks for all your replies. Gave me something to think about.

Wow, I didn't realize the specs and the price of the Odyssey 7. About the only thing the SmallHD AC7 has going for it in comparison is that it is a 1/3 less heavy.

Just got confirmation that the Convergent Design Odyssey7 HD Monitor Recorder will get released tomorrow.

Expecting that we'll our Odyssey7 shipment will arrive Wednesday or Thursday next week.
