what mm size is your variable nd?

I'm putting together my FS100 bid quote with the good folks at Abel Cine here in NYC.

I am going to purchase the kits lens which is a 67mm.

I was going to buy the Heliopan Variable ND.

I would like to eventually use vintage Pentax and Nikon mount glass.

But I am not sure what size to purchase for the Heliopan.

67mm is right for the kit lens but might be too small for unknown future lens.

72mm? 77mm?

So I ask, what mm size is your variable nd?

Thanks in advance.

Be well.

Get the 77mm and cheap step down rings for all your lens sizes. Alot of great lenses are 77mm. Also ask abel to recommend a lens hood that will hold the heliopan because it doesn't have front threads.

Let me say that again also........

I have one Nikon lens that takes an 82mm, so I got that size, using step down rings for the rest of the lenses down the 16mm Sony pancake lens. As for cheap step down rings, get more than one set, or a better brand, I have had a cheap ring lose its threads, just spun in place, which would make your ND fader unable to work right, not a good situation on the job.

It is not a heliopan.

theres $2 step rings from ebay and theres $19 step rings from B&H. Your choice.

I also have one lens thats 82mm and for that I have separate set of screw on ND's. When I bought the heliopan they only made the 77mm as the largest size. I just read they now make a 82mm. If 82mm is in your future maybe that would be the way to go too. But it seems like a 6-8 week delivery of the 82mm and its $50 more than the 77mm. $500 from B&H. Wow thats almost the price of a sony nex5n.

I have a 77mm because my 11-16 is 77mm, which is my biggest lens front. i have a 77->67 and 77->52 and they work great.
