What mic is used during this interview?

... if it *is* a mic ... as I'm not sure.

Interview with DJ Spooky, and he has some kind of device (bluetooth mic or something?) that seems like it is recording the sound. While I don't like the form factor, it is something that could be cheap or extremely useful ... so I'm asking around for a bit to see if someone recognizes it.

I highly doubt the object you see in the video hanging onto his shirt pocket is a mic source. Any videographer who takes their job serious would object to using an eyesore of a mic like that. The mic they are using is probably hidden behind his collar, or on a boom pole above his head.

I would imagine that what you see is a bluetooth headset that he owns and just placed onto his pocket during the interview. The only types of microphones that exist, everyone knows about, and if another type was invented I am sure we would've heard and seen something about it before it's premiere in a DJ Spooky interview.

Probably this:

Just started to do some work for a non profit that has this mic with their sony camcorder. Yes, it is bush league. Very tinny sound. In such close proximity to his head, the sound is tolerable, but looks ridiculous. Further away and the sound gets even worse.

Given the technical quality of the interview shot...a bluetooth mic hanging off his shirt seems very plausible. :)

I would think people wouldn't ever use such an ugly gadget to record sound, but hey ... we live in a world of quick-and-easy, with perfect-and-aesthetic seems to be far away. So I'm glad I know another tool people are using to record sound. It's definitely cheap for a wireless mic :) But too bad it won't work with anything else than a Sony Cam ...

... oh, it records in 5.1 Dolby! :)
