Hey everyone, ive been doing a little bit of research on mics for my cameras.
I have a HMC 150 and a 7D.
Ive kind of decided on a Rode NTG-2 because it has both phantom power (for the hmc) and battery power (for the 7D). Do you think this is a wise decision or have i missed something?
All thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Chris.

A separate audio recorder.

If you read around this and the audio forum you will learn that the 7D has AGC which cannot be defeated, which makes audio pretty much unusable for anything other than barely passable in ENG style stuff , but for narrative stuff , its pretty much useless.

A microphone is only part of an audio system which needs to include other components like : headphones, boom pole, shock mount, mic cable, assorted adapters, wind protection for outdoors (shotguns are mainly effective outdoors), you might want to add a "hypercardioid condenser" for indoor shooting.

do a bit more reading in the audio portion of this forum , this is all very well covered.

good luck.

Thanks so much for your reply. I did for forget to mention that I'm mainly filming bmx with these cameras and the mic will mainly be used on the hmc 150 though it would be nice to have a mic that will work on both.

They are 2 different cameras with very different capabilities when it comes to audio. eitther way , most of the audio kit outlined is necessary for both.
