GH2 What lens do you guys think this is?

Shane Carruth used a GH2 for his film Upstream Color, and I just saw this behind the scenes pic of one of their rigs. It's obviously a novoflex adapter, and it kind of looks like a nikon lens but don't know exactly which it could be. Anybody have a clue?

May I ask where you are finding BTS info and pics for Upstream Color?

From IMDB, it was just one of a few pics under Shane Carruth's profile.

Are you based in Panama? I lived out there for a while in Bocas Del Toro, Chorrera, Colón, San Blas, San Mig... I'm gonna have to go back one of these days.

That explains why the footage didn't really look all that great... It's a Samyang lens. I think it's the 85/1.4 =T

Edit: nevermind just saw the rest of the posts. LoL. Yeah, that's the lens.

Really? Kholi... Come on man.

lol. Not a fan of Samyang / Rokinon either but from what I've heard it was shot primarily on the voigtlander. I think there are definitely some good looking shots in the teasers so far though. I'm really curious to see what this looks like on the big screen.

Anybody else coming to Sundance?

Are you offended for Samyang or the FIlmmakers? That way I know what you're talking about at least?

Didn't think I said anything harsh. Just that the footage doesn't look impressive. Looks like a lot of stuff I could click over to Vimeo to see.

Kinda lost my gusto for the Voigtlanders as well. Super soft wide open, lots of CA and Coma. =T They're almost as bad as my Sigma 20/1.8 wide open, but at least they're much faster.

Let us know how the movie is if you're going. Wonder if they'll do VOD simultaneously.

I guess opinions differ. Thats the beauty. Look, not everyone here is an aspiring filmmaker. I for one just shoot video. But I do know that story and content is king when it comes to a film. Regardless of what you think is of the image, the filmmaker in this thread is obviously getting a lot of attention. I'm sure it's based more on his story than the image. Just as I think your flick superseeds might be a entertaining flick, I can guarantee you that there are 1000's that think it looks cheap. I think it looks great, so far. But there will be some that will hurt your feelings.

Honestly, the preview of Upsteam Color to "me" looks great. The color, the lighting, the tone. But I'll only like it if the story holds.

SO...When do we have the luxury of seeing Superseeds? I would rent it if it were available on iTunes. But so far, can't seem to find anything past the trailer....

Love ya Kholi. Even when we butt heads....

We're not butting heads. It's not that serious.

I know very well who Shane Carruth is, and why he's getting attention. His first feature film is in my top five influential and favorite, it also doesn't look very good.

Not sure what your point is?

I guess my point is you're quick to make short judgement and critic of obvious accomplishment. Like I said, a film can only look so good before the story fails to render it.
Why is Superseeds not on iTunes? Looks great, story looks funny. Were are you on that????????????????????????????? I mean, you're a filmmaker, right? Get that film out in the public.

You're still not making much sense. Have you seen Upstream Color? In fact, can you tell me what it's about from the footage that you've seen? You probably can't, like most people can't because it's just footage and a few obscure lines. Are you telling me that it's a good story because you've seen it or... ? What? I'm still confused.

Can you tell me what Primer is about? I can, in fact I could probably rewrite the scenes from memory.

I didn't judge the filmmaker, I judged the footage: it's unimpressive and similar to most of what's on vimeo. Feel free to disagree, it's a lot simpler to just say "I disagree I think it looks great" than to make vapid points. =T

Heh, tell that to The Hobbit.

Yeah. I'm not sure why people keep saying Story is King. If you're talking about books then you're right. If you're talking about movies, well you either don't watch many or pay attention to statistics of successful films.

Doesn't matter. Pretty much all anyone talks about is the HFR, and how it "took me out of the movie." Guess that means content can sometime take a backseat to tech, even amongst the general audience.
Of course, gotta appeal to the masses. And the masses are Honey Boo-boo drones these days. Last night I watched the trailer for Looper, Total recall. Visually stunning, and that is why I didn't watch either. I picked a documentary. SO as Kholi states, "I don't pay attention to successful films". I could care less about box office CGI crap Hollywood puts out these days. In fact, it's almost ridiculous. Therefore, I don't judge a film made on a $10,000 budget against them because they used a Samyang or an oatmeal box. Look at Winters Bone. Went from indie grand jury to academy award nominee. Propelled Jennifer Lawrence into Hunger Games. Perfect indie movie and I would say that they could have used a samyang and got away with it, because it was CONTENT that prevailed....

Yes Kholi, Primer is well understood. There is a whole website about it. Shot on 16mil for $7000 and for rent on iTunes (WHERE THE INDY MARKET IS GOING). It did well at Sundance. Lot's of mixed reviews with sort of a cult following. Does it look good? No, it looks like crap! But it's successful in the indie world because it has content.

Did anyone here judge a film made on a ten thousand dollar budget, or hold it against them? Let me know where you saw that.

If you read the wiki further, you'll see that it actually had a limited theatrical run... in 2004. Again, has anyone said anything about the movie being bad because it doesn't have a very good image?

Please, if you see, in this thread, where anyone said that feel free to quote it. Especially myself, that way I can correct it. If you didn't, then what exactly is your point? =T
