C100: What kind of HDMI does the C100 have?

Can't see this asked elsewhere, so forgive if it has been.

I just wondered what flavour of HDMI was on the Camera and weather it had HDMI 1.4?

I.e is there any possibility of 4K out being switched on at any point?

Even if they could I'm not sure Canon would. They'd want to sell us all a C200 first I guess.

I'll stick my neck out and predict that we're never going to see 4K out of the C100 or C300.

They are naturally 4K (well, Quad HD) cameras that use a single Bayer pattern chip, and downsample their outputs to HD using the Niquist theorem that you should be sampling an image at twice the desired end frequency. So a Canon C200 4K camera would need an 8K chip. In their current guise, a single sensor camera can create the sort of detail usually associated with three-chip designs, which was one of their key design points.

By going to an 8K chip, that's going to hit things like sensitivity, heat and power consumption, processing power, the need for a better codec...

And the biggest thing: 4K is all about 10 bit 4:2:2, dispite some 4:2:0 8 bit 4K consumer cameras hitting the market. The Canon Cinema range are 8 bit devices (I'm going to gloss over the C500 as I'm none to sure about its inner workings).

NAB is almost upon us, but Canon is not known for a rapid cycle of its professional camera offerings (I note that the XLH-1 is still available). The demand for 1080p60 has been strong, but they may wait another year or so for the 4K to establish the specs and codecs people want.
