What is your favorite F35 characteristic? :)

I am assuming F35... jajaja this guy's tests have less info that MacGregor's... and those are already pretty skimpy :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

May also add, that if you are recording Prores, the playback from these files is so smooth even when adding FX or grades on older machines. Total post dream for me!

I have an A7s I have just started doing side by sides. There are a couple things I noticed in little I have done, and that is the purity of color channels. Into blow out, it looks like all of the channels clip close to the same time, so there is little or no odd yellow or coloring right before clipping (or at least the color channels desaturate enough in the highlights to look more natural). But also, seeing a few objects of different colors near each other, there is good separation and distinct colors, but in the A7sII footage, there was a weird tint or smearing of the color information. At first glance, the two cameras don't look drastically different, and in that sense the A7 was impressive, but the F35 is without a doubt the superior image. And after using the Scarlet MX, I almost feel there is little difference between Red 4K and F35 HD in sharpness.

Revisiting this. Anything new with your A7 comparisons? Been searching for good small 2nd camera for F35 for long time now. Was thinking of A7S but 8bit made me give up. Then thought of Fuji camera. But color seems too different to match and is also only 8bit. Then thought of FS700 + 7Q. But color is also very different and now it's almost as big as F35. What have you found in tests?

I guess I will add to this. Probably is stupid but I really like the form factor of the F23 and how the recording medium docks like a film mag. Its a very solid unit and by far my favorite camera i've owned amongst the 60+ ive gone through over the last 20 years. Solidifies my love for Sony over other companies.. only other company I like as much is ARRI. Not a fan of RED at all.. Panasonic is decent, JVC is a joke (for cinema anyway)

Hard to beat Sony in video. Even when another company takes the spotlight, Sony is still making good cameras the whole time.

A used A7sII is a great C cam. Can get away with it for a lot of things. Matches surprisingly well.

If Sony announces a 10bit A7xyz, then that would be the no brainer. Black magic, zcam, and kinfinity are also really good optjons, as you can grade them to match.

I guess no small 10 bit camera option now? Is A7SII really much better than A7S for this? Both use same sensor right? Don't care for low light. And why C and not B camera? Looking more for a B camera. Other brands seem too much work to match in post I guess.

Fuji XT3 is 10 bit internal, as is Panasonic S1 with v-log update

I think Panasonic color will never match F35. Fuji is interesting but also quite different color? Also though it was only 8 bit. So it records 422 10 bit 4k internal?

The A7sII is so much better than the original. Unless you like tools that make you swear. Then the original is better for that.

The A7 series cameras can be a B cam. I guess i am underrating it a bit. On the A7sii, the 4k has jello, and the 1080 is a little too compressed. So, it would depend on how you are intercutting the footage, and what kind of content you are making.

I’ve used a 5d on an F55 shoot as a B cam once. But that was for tv. I’d never do that if i was filming a birthday party.

When i think B cam, i think secondary camera that is of the same quality as A cam. C cam can be anything.

If you just need a small camera for grabbing shots for a doc, any of the A7 cameras should do well.

Right here is enough to where I would never use the camera. Never have been a fan of the HDSLR/Mirrorless craze. Their codecs are just weak as hell and CMOS imagers have always frustrated me more than pleased me as a filmmaker. Just me though.. I do believe all cameras new old and up and coming will have a place in the tool box, some of us (like myself) just like a specific kind.. just as im sure there are some out there who swear by the lightweight cams and would never dare shot on an F23 or F35 or even an Alexa (yes I actually met a kid much younger than me in Chicago who said he'd never shoot on Alexa because it was too heavy and shot me down for cutting on FCP7 and swore by FCPX).. lol goes to show you "to each his own" is very real.

I'd never dare call someone stupid for what they used on their work.. you got to respect peoples own way of creating.. otherwise you don't deserve respect back. The creation process is what makes each artist unique..

OK. I want it more as B cam. Extra angles etc. 2 F35s is much to handle. If B cam is small I can also use it for things F35 is too big besides only as B cam.

From all small cameras I was more impressed with 5D RAW of all. Quality seems good match for F35. It film 4K too so is a bonus. DR I think it like F35 or less though. Found contrasting info about DR. Not sure how bad is rolling shutter either. But I think 5D RAW looks better than all A7 videos I saw and also better than Fuji. 5D RAW doesn't have that DSLR look the others have for some reason. Maybe good second camera for F35? Not sure how hard is to match colors though. Anybody tried?

5D raw is pretty awesome. Amazing what losing that compression does. Even the XT3 in 10bit, ot the 1DC in Mjpeg have just too much compression. The Red cameras in 12:1 compression begin to look like a dslr. But yeah, 5d raw. Maybe Nikon Z raw too. Depends on how small i guess. Is raw coning to the S1H as well? That has cooling fans, could give some peace of mind. I know the current color science looks a bit unique, but should be able to grade in at least.
