What is the best monitor solution for the T2i?

Hmm, that's a pretty large question.

Based on the fact that you own a T2i, I'm thinking, you don't have a huge budget and / or you don't plan on doing high-end pro projects. I'm not judging you btw... simple fact.

Based on this reflection, you don't need a high-end monitor. So, I think you should go with a Lilliput monitor (I own one), they are so cheap (around 200ish $) and they are pretty impressive for the price.

Now, if are looking for something better, again, depending on your budget, I would go with either iKan / DP1 / Marshall

Google for more info!

DP6 maybe, Marshall also sells a cheaper one that uses Canon batteries for 399.99. Also Marshall 7inch but it is heavier and pricey.

Definetly look at the lilliput 7" or 8" they have HDMI inputs, and can display the HD out of the T2i (which BTW it does output HD, just not while its in recording mode) that cheaper one appears to only have composite inputs, which stay in SD no matter what.

I too have a T2i that I use with a 8" lilliput (about $200ish), when setting up focus for static scenes or focal points it does help just keeping in mind that as soon as you hit record, the output will downscale to SD so as far as using it for racking focus.. well the T2i just isn't equipped to do that in HD no matter which monitor you choose, that is part of why its so affordable. but a monitor is nice to set up your initial focus.

IMHO it isn't a waste of investment to purchase a nicer monitor as long as it has more "pro" features such as SDI in and thru or other tools that help you monitor exposure and the such, as it will be a tool that will outlive your camera as you grow (if growing is your intention) but those monitors are going to cost you more than the camera itself. And the lilliput will give you more than what the camera is capable of putting out so its also not a bad investment, and if you don't grow then you didn't invest in features you aren't going to use.

Good Luck

It's not HDMI, but the output while recording on a T2i isn't HD anyway. For the price, it can't be beat. But, I haven't tried it, so who knows.

I got this exact monitor about 2 weeks ago - intent was to use it as a framing monitor for our jib, but it works fine on the T2i. Makes focusing easier, has in internal battery, lightweight, with a predrilled whole in the bottom you can screw a hotshoe mount into. And for $50, it's a great value to get your started.

The DP1 has a feature where you can now scale the image to full screen while recording on the T2i.
Would it be possible to do this with other monitors? - Like the Liliput 7"

I tried it out yesterday, and it is but, when you stretch it out, the image was squished a bit. Horizontally I believe it was.
