What is everyone using for a case?

A little digression on the thread ..sorry.

Tip:

I have always tied a length of black, round elastic to the 2x Audio Input covers and run that thru' an attachment point on the camera. Stops them getting lost.

Normal transmission is now resumed......

Nice set up!

I've been using the Think Tanks for DSLRs and love it! Practical, light, smart and discreet.

Thing about this thread.

Its not the cases that are difficult.

Its how one manages the inserts and divisions.

Having a custom cut insert that takes the camera is real nice (and expensive). We are collaborating with others down here (N.Z) to make a universal one for the camera body then we can all customise whats left in the case / space.

I hate that pluck and pull foam stuff. Never go near it for anything.

The custom cut stuff where I am is cheap. Averages about $35 they told me. I told them I didn't care for the pluck and pull either. Once I am done filling my larger pelican case I will have a custom made insert made.

The pick and pluck will work if you are patient and use a big kitchen knife to cut the foam to the shape of the camera. I cased 3 EX3's for a company by sitting the EX3 on top of the foam and carefully traced around it, layer by layer. I ended up with virtually a perfect cut out for the EX3! I'm gonna try this with my AF100 when I get it. Especially because my accessories will be fluctuating for a while until i get everything in order.

I have one of the 1560's that I use to haul around my axis dolly and a few other pieces of grip gear and the wheels work really well. Sometimes I wish the handle was a little longer. What I like about the Pelican kit from B&H is it is about half the price of the kit that appeared on the "A case for the AF-100" thread that was started late last year. This appears almost identical. Does anyone know if the interior bag will accept backpack straps?

I'm in the process of repurposing a couple cases. A Pelican 1510 for a simple striped down rig with a zoom or two. The 1510 is "carry on" size for airlines. And then a Storm 2975 for my elaborate cine set up. This one will hold everything and the rig will stay mostly built. I'm just trying to decide if I should just do "pick n pluck" or get custom foam made.

I just got the case in, how would I know if I can put straps on it? Being 6'4" I agree about the handle length :) But, what a deal!

You can still place an order over the phone at BH for the 1560 and portabrace liner bag. I just did. When the liner bag is back in stock it will ship.

Added a backpack to my case arsenal, a Lowepro Trekker 400, very happy with it. In addition to being built like a tank and having tons of storage, it's comfortable with good support. Minus the monopod, it doesn't scream camera bag, either. Only minor gripe is that even though it should, my laptop doesn't fit in the laptop slot, but I've got my rain cover stashed in there anyhow.
