What is everyone using for a case?

Glad you asked this, the case is the accessory I really obsess on for some reason. This thing, with lenses, will swim in my Lowepro AV, I have a pelican 1550, but its klunky and only use it in certain situations. Was looking at some backpacks, these were the two that I've been thinking about.

Anyone have any thought on these, or other backpack suggestions?

I won a Kata camera bag in a DVXfest many moons ago and it's the perfect size. Also have two Porta Brace hard cases that will hold lenses and other support gear.

I ordered a lowe pro x100 roller. Getting here today so I'll post back with an update of what I could fit in it and how I like it.

I got this one: Kata HB-207 GDC Hiker Backpack Haven't gotten it yet (it arrives tomorrow) but it looks good.

I was going to go with a PortaBrace hard shell case but then found a couple in my mom's garage I can use if needed. The reason I went with the backpack is I remembered a shoot I did in Joshua Tree National Park and just froze at the thought of doing that kind of shot again with a hard shell case. It is just so much nicer to have you hands free if you can't drive up to the set.

I have a pelican 1604 with dividers, and the Porta Brace BK-1NRQS-M4 Backpack. I love the backpack for smaller shoots, but almost always use both the pelican and porta brace for my larger shoots to support all my shooting equipment. I'm thinking of getting the even larger pelican 1654 with wheels and interior dividers. It's great! Enough room for couple of cameras, or one large cam, a smaller B-cam and plenty of room for acc.

For the time being, I'll probably move my HVX back to the Cinebags to make room for the AF-100 in the Porta Brace (more padding). Which means the DVX will have to move from the Cinebags back to the paramedics duffel bag it used to be in. I'll probably wait to see what lenses I pick up in the first few months before settling on a case.

ThinkTank Airport Security v2.0

ThinkTank is also on my list. But have been looking at their Airport/International since I have a shoot in Nepal this summer. So looking for something that can do international carry-on for certain.

The only differences I can see between the two are that the Security version is 9 x 14 x 22 and the international is 8 x 14 x 21. Anyone have travel experience with these bags to share?

Ok, so here is a photo of what I fit into the Lowe Pro x100 roller:

photo(4).jpg

Inside is:
AF100 with 14-140 attached (top handle removed and stored under EVF)
GH1 with 20mm pancake attached
2 x Minolta 50mm lenses
Small roll of gaffers tape
Chargers/AC adapters for AF100 & GH1
Small bag for AA batteries, extra GH1 battery and extra AF100 battery
Portable hard drive & card reader (goes in the empty space on the left)
Macbook pro AC cord, USB & firewire cable
15" Macbook pro (in outer sleeve pocket)
Assorted small filters & SD cards

I think this is a ton of stuff to cram in here. This gives me everything I need for a two camera shoot. It is super small, compact, sturdy, ridiculously mobile and easy to carry around. Obviously not everyone has the same gear or needs, but this works perfectly for us, and just thought I'd share for anyone that might have a similar kit. I don't currently have an external monitor, but I still think I'd be able to jam a SmallHD DP6 in there somewhere (there is one more small outer pocket I'm not using.) Finding a spot for the batteries may be tricky though... And also my actual lighting kit is a whole trolley of stuff, this is purely for camera gear.
