What is everyone using for a case?

No you would need the x200 or 300. The 15" barely fits in there. It is super snug, and it's right on the outside so I would be very careful with it. The bag material is very tough looking so I'm not too worried, but I just would not apply lots of pressure to it, as you would be careful not to do with any soft case.

Just looked up lowepro and I think you are right. They recommend the x300 for a 17 inch.

Here is a question I have for everyone. All of these cases are good for getting your equipment to a location, however, when I am at a location, I like having a lens bag that just has all the lens in it. I am thinking of a larger case with a smaller case in it that i can pull out and carry that around with me on location.

I would like something that is easy to have open, and could handle at least 6 lenses, has anyone thought about this? I do change lenses a lot as I am a prime user mostly (want the fastest lenses for the freedom if I do need it opened wider).

Thoughts?

The best and cheapest cases you'll find at (online) shops for musical instruments. Because musical equipment like amplifiers and speakers usually are much larger than photographic equipment, the cases for this are relatively cheaper. What's considered a large case in photography world usally is considered a tiny case in musicians world.

i just ordered the pelican 1560 with no foam and the Porta Brace PB-1560ICO interior case , its a crazy deal , and if i decide to use the porta brace alone i can alway get foam for the pelican and use for my dslrs ...

I just got the 1560 for Christmas, its a great case (still need the camera to fill it out though...) but damn, I wish I had known about the portabrase deal. I did get the pelican foam divider set though

Hey, Robert - how do you like the wheels on the 1560 - are they hard plastic or skate variety? Agree, that Porta Brace deal is sweet.

Will it Fit... I don't want to check it... the ultimate criteria...
Most U.S. domestic, non commuter airlines 22"x14"x9". Many allow a second smaller item as well such as a tote, cosmetic bag, briefcase, etc. International - 18"x14"x9" - This is a recommended carry-on size and will very from airline to airline. Comments - People are always asking about that United Airlines template. You know, the square metal thing on the security belt that your carry-on luggage has to feed through in order to be legal carry-on size. The template says 14" x 9". This concerns people because most wheeled carry-on luggage are 14"x9" not including the carry handle and other little bumps that can add up and make the bag about 14.5"x9.5". Someone measured a United Airlines template at LAX international and it was actually 15"x10".

I travel a lot, and spent a lot of my career traveling with equipment in airports, so when I had a little extra time I decided to start a project which has been in development now for almost 18-months. I think I have built the ultimate 100% carry-on/travel protection case for myself, and figured that others would like it which is why I'm making a few more. Inspiration came from some friends who up until recently worked for NASA.

At Sun/Slamdance I'll have it with me and if you are in Park City and look me up during the first week I can give you a sneak preview. It's the 11th revision of the Hot Rod APC (Armored Photo Carrier) which has room for a AF100 w/PL mount Tuner Kit, Zeiss CP lens, cable storage, GH2 w/extra batteries and charger (and my netbook), it's also 100% airline carry-on capable. It utilized the lightest, strongest and most scratch resistant tempered resin hard coat shell (superior to Pelican/Storm) with the most comfortable fatigue free latches. Inside protecting the equipment is an internationally patented padding in a modular system exclusive to Hot Rod Cameras. Case has a lifetime guarantee, is built in North America and as a bonus- looks cool. If all goes according to plan this month, the whole thing will retail for $400 or less in February.

The nice thing about designing only for yourself rather than "the market", is that you can keep refining until you are 100% happy with it, and believe I am finally happy- I think a few others will be too.
