First off I am so glad that I found this forum. My camera is an AH-x1s and I edit in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects. I have been an pro audio engineer for the past 28 years and am not a videographer. Due to request and need, I am venturing into the video side. I have been multi-track recording live performances and now am adding video to the mix. I have no problem with the post side of things but I am not happy with my video results. Could someone recommend setting for shooting video with stage lights as my light source.
Any and all input is appreciated.

Do you have any screengrabs showing individual characteristics that you're not happy with? There are lots of things that can go wrong with an image.

No not really. Everything I have done so far has been in the studio. I am looking for a starting point suggestions. Sorry that I have nothing more to offer.

Well, all I can say is try out some of the established ones. You can find a whole bunch of them here - http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/canon-x...76-xl-h1-custom-presets-download-library.html

What I've found to be the single most important thing is probably not by coincidence, the first parameter, the gamma. Using a cine gamma helps tremendously in getting better highlight rolloff, and even better exposure latitude as well. Again, I'm not sure what exactly you're going for, but that's another place where I'd start.

The OP is almost a year old, but maybe this might be useful to someone else:

I shoot concerts, and my XH-A1 is my primary camera. The main thing I would recommend is to try to work with the lighting operator to improve the lighting, and even it out. Concert lights are almost always far too intense in very small areas. The most common concert light, a PAR lamp, is literally an aircraft landing light in a can. They work fine when they are forty feet or more from a person, but too many small venues have these horrible things twelve feet away from someone's face. I shoot manually constantly riding the iris.

Ive played around lots with these custom pre-set settings for a LONG time to try to find the best low light set up possible. IMG06.jpg

These are the settings Im using:
1/24, aperture 1.6, 24F HDV, Gain: -3, white bal: pre sunlight

GAM - CIN 1
KNE - HIGH
BLK - STRETCH
PED - 0
SET - 0
SHARP - -3
HDF - M
DHV - 0
COR - 7
NR1 - 0
NR2 - LOW
The rest are zero or normal.

Youll find there is hardly no noise and still does well in very low light. would like to use a higher shutter but thats not going to happen with the light I am given at some of these venues.
