What if...

I have a question.
I have been skulking around these boards now for months, gaining knowledge, getting information, watching productions and their critics... but the one thing I haven't been able to figure out is why am I here? If I want to go to Hollywood, I should go and try to get on a few productions there... but I don't want Hollywood. I want to be fully independent with very little to do with the Hollywood system.

NO!

Don't tell me it is unrealistic; it may be in the realm of the fantastic, or nearly impossible, but it is not improbable. For years, Southwest Distributors helped independents get their product out there, and now with Rocketindie and Filmbaby more and more can be done to self distribute.

Which brings me here.

I have learned so much here in the 2 years before I joined, and the 8 months or so before I started posting, that I know that I could run a shoot efficiently and under budget. I am gaining knowledge that will help me in every facet of production. It is helping me understand much about the filmmaking process. What if the knowledge was taken, shared, and used on a large scale, networked to every one here and on other forums, and a huge nationwide independent "studio" was born. Theatres were rented out for screenings. People networked and worked together on films, brought their talents together and produced great works with a built in audience all over the world...

What would Hollywood say then?

Or are we really so many crabs in a bucket that Hollywood really has nothing to fear from us (they will either absorb us or assimilate us)?

Answer or not, I don't really care... but I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I didn't ask...
(and it doesn't matter how many times it has been brought up before, I still needed to ask. I need to know if I am alone in this.)

No matter the budget, no matter the equipment, there is only one thing that can make you great. Talent as a film maker. I can take a S-VHS camera that is 10 years old or more, a good rider (i do mountain bike and ski shorts) and make a 5 minute video that is 10 times better then someone who doesn't know what they are doing, regardless of what equipment they are using or how good their rider is. That is because I have acquired much the same knowledge as you from these boards. The key is not to get so wrapped up in the technical gobbledeegook (or whatever I just tried to spell)
and focous on composition, smooth panning and camer movement and that sort of wonderfullness.

Look out hollywood, the Indie film makers are on the move!
