What I did on my summer vacation...

I can't post much as I'm on the other side of the globe and my only internet access is my Blackberry but I figured you all might like to see a few shots taken with my hpx170. Apologies in advance for the tiny sizes but uploading footage from the bush of africa isn't so easy. :)

i would have rather you waited...i live in San Diego, and we supposedly have a decent zoo here...i can see this any thursday...surprised you bothered with this. enjoy the jungle!

Lets just hope we don't see you on one of those I shouldn't be alive shows. JK

Compression is kind of bad, but looks like alot of fun. Can't wait to see the full quality vids.

Have a safe trip !

Well if the third clip isn't working then that explains it. The first two clips were just whatever, but the third clip is of a huge bull elephant charging our second van. I was using the first two to set up the atmosphere but the gag was the third clip. At least that was how it was supposed to work.

It works!.
Looks like the people in that van got their money's worth for that ride!
Ain't no dispute who the boss is in that neighborhood....:Drogar-Shock(DBG):

All three work fine. I love that kind of stuff!

Tomorrow get some steaks and wipe the vehicle down with them, don't tell the driver just see what happens. You'll come back with some interesting footage :)

How long are you in Africa for and what parts?

Yes, the third one suddenly works now.

You know you're having an adventure when you need to back up your van because of a charging elephant!!!

Very cool. Have a great time!

Holy oversaturation Batman,

nice shots.

The driver in the van forgot to turn on the hazard lights while he was backing up!
peep peep peep :)

Be safe Mr Green.

When did this happen!? Did anybody else know Barry was head to head with elephants in Africa? Great shots! The third one was especially captivating. Have a safe trip! Can't wait to hear more about it all. :)

I've got another week down here, all in South Africa. Mostly Kruger but also a little Cape Town and Johannesburg.

Hmmm... Steaks on the windows... Hadn't thought of that... But down here they're very clear : if you feed something, they then have to kill it. Sad but that's the way it is.

Today we got a killer shot of a herd of elephants migrating while two impala locked horns in front of them and giraffe crossed behind them.

Hardest shot is trying to get warthogs, they're very camera shy.

Getting footage of two elephants locked in battle, tusks and trunks intertwined, was pretty cool too.

Loving it down here. It's a little warm & sticky but nothing compared to north carolina

We live on the south east coast of South Africa, so we are regular visitors to the Kruger and other SA National Parks.

Just for what its worth a bit of info on the above.

Visitors feeding animals in the Kruger is a major problem for the authorities there. Doing anything to attract animals to vehicles and humans can lead to very dangerous consequences.

The animals begin to associate humans with food and begin to rely on humans to feed them. This can quickly lead to aggressive behaviour, with no alternative but to put them down.

Hyeanas, Baboons and monkeys in particular.

Yea, don't feed them just wipe the vehicle down with a steak so they smell it and come to investigate. Although they might follow you all the way back to the camp. Some friends used to do that and they got some really impressive footage of lions standing on the hood of their suv growling at them droolling all over the place (nat geo doc). Get the shot Barry! Get the shot!

When you get back you should put your best clips on consignment with a stock footage house. Lot's of commercial projects are always looking for that kind of stuff. They pay big money for shots of the animals doing something like fighting or trying to eat passengers in a tour van btw. Not so much $ if the animals are laying around doing nothing. Lions attack a tour group would bring you $30k + on the low end. he he he...
