1080 or 720?

We are currently shooting a pilot for networks, just trying to see what the consensus would be, we will be shooting on either hvx200 or hpx170.

SHould we shoot in 60i or 24, etc etc

thanks

I take it from our post this is a project on spec. That you haven't been commissioned to do this. If you had been, the commissioning network would have provided you with their tech specs for acquisition and delivery.

That being said, since you don't know where the show is headed shoot the highest quality you can. You can always down convert to 720 if needed. So, I would suggest shoot 1080 24pa.

yes you are right we are shooting on spec, and after that shop it around etc...

ok great thanks for your input, much appreciated

Why would you shoot 24 if it's for TV? Wouldn't shooting at a standard "non-film" frame rate like be easier in the long run?

You'd shoot 24 for TV if you wanted it to look like film. Every network drama is shot at 24fps, whether on video or film.

Soap operas are shot at 60 frames per second. One thing I do not like about 24 frames per second is that the lip movements of the actors look mushy. So maybe shooting at 30 frames per second would be a better compromise because the motion would be better but it would still look like film.
