Shiny,

It looks like it might work but since it gets its power from the USB port you might have to make up an adapter to power it. If memory serves USB is a 5.5VDC power source.

bwest,

I have been working on a follow focus that uses the same controls as the standard HVX but I am not close to having something ready for primetime.

Did anyone think of using a Slate-type tablet PC or a PDA or portable internet appliance with S-video in as a display ?
Just wondering if someone researched this ?

Any ideas if the Tekkeon batteries run on 240V AC ? Outside the US ? Cheers!

Are there any chargers now that do not run from 100 to 240 V AC? I don't think so.
Even the supply that came with my Philips PET1000, which supposedly is only 110V, once I plugged it inadvertently in 220V and it didn't seem to care. Until then I was looking for an international version of that supply, but now I don't think I need it.

i use this monitor
http://www.boacinema.com/projects/lcd_monitor/

and its friggin awsome. 1280x768 native
Its really sharp and if you turn up the sharpness all the way its kinda like peaking. (10.6 inches) Its pretty big but not as big as that screen in the picture i saw earlier in the thread, :)

This isn't a bad solution. I may be wrong, but I think Bruce (boacinema) is using the Samsung 10.6 WXGA HD LCD. it's about 250.00 shipped and is a pretty darn good LCD, albeit huge and that's the price without the casing.

I think my main reserve, although there's resolution there, is the stretching, the size, and the fact that you'd have to build a case/housing around it or find one with the right controller pins.

Not a bad idea, at all. I think the overall costs to do something like that would total about 400.00 and you'd have a great solution.

The Lilliput, however, works great for me. Might try building the Samsung out later for the sake of HDMI port and onboard connections.

So I have strapped all this together on my DVX, using the Lilliput LCD recommended here. I am running composite out to the input on the monitor and getting a pretty mushy image. It isn't really that good for focusing at all. I have messed with the on-board settings (have sharpness all the way up) but it doesn't really make a difference. I searched today and the only way it seems I can use s-video with this thing is with this cable.

Does anyone here think the benefit will be worth the $30?

You dont have to build it. He has them finished.

Metal case, very sturdy. With all the connection I need. vga, component, composite, svideo, hdmi, and some weird thing that I don’t know about. Also it doesn’t stretch. The top and bottom is pretty accurate but u lose about a quarter of a inch on the sides which isnt bad at all. Less then underscan.

Any idea on who's selling that unit? A Google search got me nowhere.

i think there is a email address on that site. ask him:)

It's Standard Definition. The highest quality you could possibly use is S-Video although I don't think that's necessary. I can't see you missing focus much using the lilliput LCD + composite SD, honestly. You should try checking the quality on another LCD as well.

I went and used a Marshall with my HVX to confirm my thoughts on the price gap and, for the price, the Lilliput is plenty to focus with in HD.

If you find the right controller board, you should be able to adjust the screen to fit accurately.

I can't remember where I found the site that sells it. I'll have to go back to the other laptop to search but it was about 250.00 or so. Maybe Bruce will tell you, I'm sure he has no reason to keep it a secret. The prime point of his service is giving you a full package for 650.00 which is basically a housing + LCD.

Can you go into an options menu or anything with his housing? Adjust brightness or do you have to use the remote?
