What do you do besides filmmaking, and how do you have time for it?

I was just wondering what all you film makers others hobbies are? Its obvious you make films, but do you do anything else? Since film making is such a time consuming process! I personally enjoy playing video games, and online RPG's. I'm also a musician and artist. I also like going to the movies on Occasion. I went last night to see "The Blind Side" which I was in (extra). What do you like to do?

I play guitar. I watch my daughter who dances with the Dayton Ballet. I have time by ignoring all other adult responsibilites until the last minute....

when not making a film, i'm usually involved in the film community somehow – going to festivals and conferences, writing for different film blogs (workbook project, filmmaker magazine), or continuing to research and develop distribution strategies. i also watch a lot of films and buy dvds from filmmakers i want to support. this month i bought The New Year Parade, Children of Invention, One Hour Fantasy Girl and others. Probably would have bought INK sight unseen too, but it was on Netflix Instant and I didn't like it at all. Not my cup of Magic Bullet saturated tea.

soooo basically, I don't have any hobbies that aren't connected to being a filmmaker in some way. depressing.

Not my cup of Magic Bullet saturated tea.

I work in a cafe, and I wish we had tea with such cool names as Magic Bullet Saturated Tea. I bet it would sell like crazy.

As for what else I do, I also shoot wedding videos, with the occasional commercial or corporate video job.

I have to pursue narrative filmmaking in my spare time, which there is not much of. So in a sense, the filmmaking is sort of the "hobby" since I don't get paid for making a short film. Someday though, I'll make a feature and hopefully become a pro and make a living at it.

I like to make music on the computer. I have a weird style that is probably not most people's cup of tea, but I have fun making noise that resembles music.

I also enjoy playing games on my PS3 and XB360 when I can squeeze it in.

I think I am going to start a novel soon too. I have written short and feature scripts, but I am interested in tackling the challenge of prose fiction and seeing what I can do with it in terms of possibly making money and most importantly, getting my stories out there.

I plan my next shoot.

Seriously, I shoot music videos, avoid playing video games since I have an obsessive personality (and yes avoiding playing videogames can be a hobby in and of itself), write short stories and my novel, and paint with acrylics/oils and photoshop. I also sleep whenever I get a chance.

..Pyrotechnics.....and..hmm.. I don't really have free time, I'm stuying and working at the same time so you know I don't have much free time....

I do still photography, and I write the occasional short story or poem. I'm in a sketch comedy group, and we just did two live theatre performances this weekend. I do theatre from time to time, both in and behind the scenes, although I've never directed a play, but I'd like to try it maybe once.

My company also does event production. It was kind of a natural extension to our video business. A lot of our client kept asking about AV companies so we geared up and provided it ourself.
