What do I need to test/check on a brandnew 550D+18-55? To be sure I didn´t get a flawed one. What are the most common problems/signs that something is wrong?

I made some fotos and the pircture seems rather dull/flat/spiritless. I expected the colors to be more vivid.

Is it a bad sign that I had dust on my lens?

Where/how do I check how many pictures have been taken already?

If its brand new, why does finding out how many pictures have been taken matter? surely its as many as you've taken?

And dust can just be wiped off with a microfiber cloth or one of those little air pumpers. Its nothing to worry about greatly.

As for the flat pictures, it depends on a lot of things, lens, picture style, white ballance etc. Post some examples of what's going wrong and we can help.

First i would check if theres dead pixel on the LCD
second i will check if theres dead pixel on the sensor by having the lens cap on and crank the ISO to the highest and enable to zoom and see if theres an stocked pixels (a pixel that doesn't change)
dead pixel on LCD is okay, but not okay on the sensor.

you want punch image, and in most viewing situations, i find that LCD brightness to "5" is better than the default "4"
set picture style to "Landscape"
