the closer to the lens the less water and scratches show.. but its also harder to spot. water will do some funky stuff really close.

and glad to help MAtt!

also i found some old photos and articles I did on matteboxes: I gotta add these to the list.

Excellent! - This was much needed - Many will find these useful in picking a box.

If i'm not mistaken, is that the infamous "first dvx" up for grabs in the Sci-Fest prize pool?

It is! Look how well it's been taken care of

I just went through and read those articles on Matte Boxes, and great work Jarred. They really go ahead and showcase the differences in the design and are just very complete. I wish for two of them there was an article rather than just the photographs, but for those of us who live 800 miles from B&H and 3000 miles from EVS this is a great way to get almost a hands on look and feel of the product to see which will best fit our needs.

Anyone know of a way to only by the 15mm rods if they wanted, without the entire mattbox? My immediate concern is for a Letus35 adapter we're purchasing ... with some of the heavier/longer lenses I could get, I'm concerned with the torque I may be putting on the DVX without some kind of support system in place for the unit.

you can order 15mm rods seperate, just ask rush and he will hook you up. Cavision makes pretty cool carbon fiber ones, and is one of the few products they make that is pretty solid.

... cuz you aint in the room with me so its easy to say things like " watch it cowboy" when the worst you can do is kick me off your site...

Ha! Like he's gonna tell 6'7" Jarred how it's gonna be in person.

"I said bring me some mofo chocolate milk!" :cheesy:

Pettersen, that looks GREAT! LOL! Nice job.

Jarred, thanks for the referral. Spoke to Rush, but they're currently out of stock ... had to order from B&H Photo. I got the Carbon Fiber 15mm rods (Cavision), but both companies are reporting issues with Cavision's service & support ... so much so that EVS isn't going to carry their stuff anymore until they get it taken care of/improved.

Anyway they should be here by end of the week ... in time for our shoot next weekend. Thanks!

uh, geniuselvs...your fighting with the founder of the forum. Nuff said!
...and if you dont know what the uses of filters are for, you might want to go swim in the kids pool for a few months----> love ya,

The only thing we asked Cavision to do is individually package their products and clearly mark each item, because right now, they are not doing that, and it is creating a lot of confusion in shipping. We are giving them a period of time to get that new system going, before we place the next order.

Envision, I am glad we got you taken care of, it is rare that I shop with a customer on a competitor's website

Yeah, thanks again, Rush. As always, awesome service, even if you had to refer to someone else who happened to have it in stock because I was in a rush for the item.

And yeah, I may have made that statement sound a little strong about Cavision, sorry. However, when I asked B&H about details of the rod support (i.e. 200mm vs. 250mm length - options that are shown on Cavision's website), they also said that nothing comes marked, and they have no support information about Cavision's stuff. The guy actually sounded equally frustrated with what was going on, if not even more so.

But, even though they may be lacking in some areas, at least Cavision's got a good CF rod suppor that I'll have in the mail by end of week.

I think Rush is trying to be nice, I know first hand its a total crap-shoot what you get outta Cavision. I know Jason there really tries, but may be overwhelmed.

Model numbers are stupidly close if not all screwed up and you dont really know what you are get. The follow focus doesnt work with the swing away mattebox and some of the plastic stuff they make is embarassing. It really sucks though, because they really have a few solid items, are trying to hit a great price point, and have some good ideas. The machining on the aluminum parts is great, but they cheap out with crappy hardware (bolts etc.) and plastic parts where there should be metal.

I think they just need a housekeeper to go into that company and organize it, stop making the crappy items they have, because people keep reporting it and its bringing them down. A regroup is needed over there for sue.
