i am in Pal country (Latvia), and until now i used mostly 25p mode.....

But now i changed the settings and use 24p mode, but here is the problem: when i drop files into my time line (PP CS6) i loose a last few seconds of audio... on each clip and its seems like that the sound is not sinchronised! Plz help!!!!

here are the settings that i see on my c300 monitor : 50 Mbps, 1920x1080, 24.00P ! shater 1/48

here are the setting that r chosen in the meny:
Other Functions: Ntsc/Pal - Pal; 24.00P - On; Bit Rate/Resolution - 50Mbps 1920x1080

Regards

i forgot to mention - audio is recordered in camera, not externally!!!

Sveiks! You might want to check your audio sample rate on your timeline. That's a more likely place to have a mismatch there as nobody else has been talking about this issue coming from the camera.

Try dragging a clip on the "new Item" Icon and just work in the native format you shot. Deal with the PAL settings on export with Adobe Media Encoder.

I shoot 24P and delivery in NTSC 29.97 everyday with no issues.

how do i check it? a simple right click and choosing properties on audio line on my time line - shows same info as the video actually....
_____

when i drop files on timeline , system tells me that the files does not match the sequence, and offers to change the sequence settings to match the files..... thats what i do.... i did same when was shooting in 25p and there were no problems!

thanks for the replay, but if say true i dont really understand what u mean exactly? i did what u suggested : i dragged the clip on the "new item" Icon ..... that action created the new sequence with the file that i dragged..... but problem still there! i loose around 15 seconds of audio at the end of every clip (clip length is 5min 16 sec)
also the audio i have is not synchronized, for some strange reasons .... the sound comes earlier then the image!

so right now i cant edit..... because the image does not match the sound (all is recorded internally!) so how it does not match?

Adobe PP needs import clips via browser in APP, you can't drag and drop files in other ways. Try this help with correct projects/sequence setting (and with the XF Canon plugin installed).

Take the card and play it back in the camera and see if it plays right with audio sync. If it does then reimport the clips into PP by using the browser.

yes i always import clips with media browser! i open PP, i create new project , then i go in media browser tab, i select the folder and import it ! thats what i always do.

are there any audio settings in camcorder that i should use when i choose 24p mode?

also in PP CS6 there are offered 2 sequence presets for 24p.... : Canon XF MPEG2 -> 1080p -> Canon XF MPEG2 1080p24 AND Canon XF MPEG2 1080p24N

whats the difference? what should be right for me as a Pal User?

from what i see the difference between 2 : 23.976fps and 24.00fps

its seems to me that Canon XF MPEG2 1080p24 - is for Ntsc users... and Canon XF MPEG2 1080p24N is for Pal .... am i right?

Regards

ok here is the thing! i reordered a new piece of video just to make sure! i played the video in MPC (media player classic) and in canon XF utility - and there are no audio synchronization issues! so seems like my problem is Premier.... in premier my problems are still there...

Still need help!

Again - i always use media browser in order to input files into the project. any more suggestions?

I don't know if it's any different because you're PAL, but I've always read and heard that you shouldn't shoot true 24P(24.00) UNLESS you are planning a 'film-out' of the footage.

really? would like to hear more about it.... in my case i was requested to do it....client asked so,- also ive been told that 25p has a look of any consumer camcorder...

but still its not a solution right now! i ve got to deal with the footage now...

Absolutely true.

For all practical purposes if someone asks for 24p means shoot in 23.976

No. Not quite. 50i 'has the look of any consumer camcorder' and is considered 'the video look'. 25p is the framerate used by all UK/European film and narrative broadcast TV.

but still its not a solution right now! i ve got to deal with the footage now...

Are you Mac or PC based? I can think of Mac solutions, but I'm not a PC user.

The audio sync issues in Premiere may be because Premiere's treating the audio as true 24 and thinking that the video is 23.976 - thus the video is playing very slightly slower than the audio. Hence it slips sync, and there's more picture than audio for a given clip.

Is your Premiere Pro sequence 24p or 24p Non Drop Frame? 24pNDF is true 24p - it doesn't 'drop a frame' which makes the odd 23.976fps thing.

Try making a new 1080p sequence from the Canon XF MPEG2 preset using the 'Canon XF MPEG2 1080p24N' settings. Are you getting sync in PP?

The next stage would be to conform the 24fps movie as a 25fps movie, noting that the duration will be 4% faster. Various not-quite-destructive methods to do this (we don't want to have PP 'invent' frames, just play them back faster). Note also that some methods will shift the pitch of the audio up by a fraction, some methods keep the pitch but will stretch the time. Hopefully this was interview/b-roll rather than a music piece. LOL

Going forward, as a UK/EU based video producer, I stick to 25p unless shooting for Americans, where the choice is usually 29.97fps and only very rarely 23.976 - so rare I think I've only been asked once and even then I think on that occasion we went back to 29.97. The flop between the US style 24p and 23.967 and the UK/EU style 25p is pretty regular - any US film shown on TV in the EU will have gone through the process outlined above (and the reverse also being true).

thank you for the detailed info Matt!! i am PC based....

ill try the solutions, u told me about, later in the evening today, and will wright back here how its worked out for me, but its seems like i know now what is the problem! in any case its worth the troubles as now i know much more about frame rates then before!

one last thing to make it very clear for me - as an EU operator, i always should film in 25p, right? i changed it to 24p because of 1 client who insisted that only 24p will give "film look", i did not want to argue much as i was not a big expert in frame rates.... so i just did what he asked me for , and now have problems editing it...

- I use 24NDF - but audio still does not match to image

I must say - YOU HAVE TO MAKE COPIES THE RIGHT WAY! i did a test and if i use canon xf utility to copy clips from CF card on Hard Drive : i get no problems! everything works like it should! but if i make copies with out using XF utility..... just a normal way coping from card to hdd, it gives me problems with audio! for some reasons when i use 25p i have no problems like that......

But thank u for the help guys, the problem i faced gave me lots of info i did not really know before!

Regards!
