What current patch offers the least amount of noise and video mud with native 24p?

I'm looking for a patch for ptool that offers the least amount of noise/video mud, highest detail, and native 24p when shooting with the AVCHD codec.

i currently have my Gh1 hacked with the 100mbs patch, but was wondering if there was anything better out there?

I'm no expert, but your question makes no sense without more information. ISO, lens aperture, what your are shooting, how much lighting, etc...

well im shooting with the 14-44 stock lens so the fstop will range from 3.5 onward. i usually dont go over 800 ISO on the camera and shoot a shutter of 1/50th always. i know the bitrate all depends on the amount of detail and light (or so i read), but i just was wondering which one held up the best as one to be used in many different lighting situations.

I've experimented with some low GOP hacks, but in low to no light, it's unstable. It just shuts down if there isn't enough light. The 100mb max lat is about as good as it gets both quality and stability. You're major problem is the Gh1's poor low light performance in ISO's over 500, it doesn't matter how high the hack is, the camera just is flawed at high ISOs. The stock Kit lens is just too slow for low light.

Buy a old vintage 50mm F1.8 cheap on ebay and you'll get much better night footage.

canon fd 50mm f1.4 with adapter is around 100 bucks... Worth every penny. Just be sure to check focus every time before you roll... At f1.4 you won't have much room for error.

Just try each of the lpowel's hacks. He has the definitive hacks for the GH1: one is safe, and all the others can fail at times. I think there are four, so it is not hard to try them all for what you are doing... Al

I've tested both High Reliability 75 mbit and Max Latitude 100 mbit and there is little difference in low light situation. Suggestions above to get a faster lens is good, either a fast 50 mm or 28 or 35 mm lens. Wide-angles with f2 or larger aperture are getting more and more expensive. The real trick to get good image for low light situation is to combine fast lens, ISO 400 and a bit better lighting than the final image brightness requires. Then in post production stretch dark hues or bring the whole image brightness down a bit.

This will mask much of the mud or posterisation and you'll get a nice final result.

No hack will ever make up for the use of ios800 and a f3.5 lens. But faster lenses, the will make a world of a difference. Once you shoot with f1.8 you may never look at a f3.5 ever again well except for in sunlight.

For the GH1 in LL I use Rigs patch or my Concert and event patch. Depends on if you want file spanning. Depends on the source material. In some lighting situations, you can slightly augment the noise if the bitrate is too high. You just have to experiment a bit. The rigs patch is a good place to start.

Unfortunately whenever you raise the bitrate, you also lower the macro blocking and replace it with detail, which is generally noise.
