What camera!?!/!?

Hey guys ummm im beginning my production company, Mt. Lion Productionz, and i need to decide between two cameras, the sony DCR-VX2100, wich i know is more expensive good looking and good video quality, or the Canon GL2, wich i know is less expensive the same or better v-quality.
any help on this matter would b gr8 thx!!!!

Personally, if it was between the two I would go with the GL2. I have had problems with the VX series going into demo mode.

I do have a question for you though... are you buying these for a cheap price? If you're planning on paying $2k anyway, you might as well go with a DSLR and get some cheap lenses and some cheap audio equipment. The difference between standard definition and high definition is not only noticeable to the eye, but also noticeable to your customers when you are trying to sell yourself to them.

Unless you are getting these used for about $300 dollars I would not buy either of those cameras. They were great 10 years ago, but a lot has changed since then. The GL2 is SD, has 1/4" chips, lacks XLR inputs and doesn't have anywhere near the amount of manual controls that is expected from a $2000 dollar camera today (in 2002 when the GL2 was released it made sense, but again a lot has changed since then)

You can pick up A Vixia HF S200 for $650 new these days which blows both of those cameras out of the water in terms of video quality (though it doesn't look as professional). If you are going to spend $2000 you can pick up something like a used XH-A1 for about 1,800 which is HD, has 3 1/3" chips, has xlr inputs, and a ton of manual controls (and looks more professional then both the GL2 and DCR-VX2100)

+1 I own the HFS 200 - It's a great camera. The XHA1 is still a viable camera as well...it has just about everything included for great video production. Buy a couple of mics and a good tri-pod and you're set.

What kind of filming are you going to be doing? If you're shooting mostly in-studio with a controlled environment, a video DSLR might give you the most bang for the buck. If you're going to be doing a lot of shooting in the field, cgold's advice is spot-on.
