What camera to buy? (Non-DSLR)

It's not an extra couple of grand from a used AF100/FS100 to an F3 though. That's my point. More like $3-4k more. Plus, the F3 is no more "broadcast spec" (a term which is mostly just FUD these days) than those two. In fact, I'd take AVCHD over XDCam EX any day.
You misunderstand me Gary, I was referencing the OP stating $6k was his limit. Hence an extra two grand.

After you dump all the footage to computer clear the card and reformat in the camera.
Oh, I know what I'm doing. I format the card as much as possible.

Its the ML that is installed onto the card causing these issues. Without ML I rarely if at all have any problems. But when I do, it will become an issue eventually. Its not like it happens every single time, but occasionally.

I would never choose an FS100 over the AF100. I think they look nearly identical, especially if you don't just casually accept the default scene settings, and the AF100 has built-in NDs and SDI out. The FS700 is a different story because it has both of those, and a much better sensor, but then you're near the price of a used F3.
The FS100 not having built in NDs is a bit of a problem, but Im getting a mattebox and filters shortly anyways. So, it wont be THAT big of a deal anyways if its built in or not.
The HD-SDI is the only thing that Im not that big of a fan of with this camera.

I've seen comparison videos between the Pan. AF100 & Sony FS100, the Sony seemed to have a better sensor than that Panasonic.

Other than the three cameras mentioned: FS100, AF100, F3... Are there any other possible cameras I should consider? - Dont quote me on this one as its from like one or two reviews ive heard from. Still looking.

I have a 60D and have never encountered anything like this on Patriot/Transcend/Sandisk SD cards (all Class 10). You did say you were using Magic Lantern, so you're not changing any of the encoding settings by any chance are you? That's a big no-no if you are. If you're having legitimate card issues, I'd try uninstalling ML entirely first off and seeing if your issues go away. I've used ML on my 60D as well without issue, but that's the only thing I can see that would cause that, outside of a bad card or SD slot on your camera. (EDIT: Also had a T2i for a little while, and never had buffering issues either).

Get a used AF100 for around $2.5k. Best deal right now, IMO, when money's an issue.

And I on the other hand would choose a FS 100 over an AF 100 6 days of the week and
twice on Sunday. As for identical look, I would disagree. But don't take my word for it,
read the extensive review by Adam Wilt and especially the parts where he compares it to
the AF100 . After extensive testing as well as shooting charts, he concludes that there is
a substantial difference in image quality with the advantage to the FS100.

I'd pay a few extra dollars for the features of an F3 over those other cameras. Everyone is different. You pays your money, you takes your choice...

Well, that's great and all, but really has nothing to do with the OP. He has a set budget, he wants the best he can get. Doesn't seem like, "Spend more!" is always the best advice.

The OP asked for advice, I gave him my advice on post #2 of this thread. He can choose to take it or not. I don't see any advice from you or any attempt to answer the OP.

Whatever I write, in whichever thread you will usually take an opposing and often antagonistic stance. Maybe you enjoy battling semantics with me, maybe you think I'm the devil's spawn. I don't know, I don't care. Though, I do think you should try answering the opening post, just once in a while.

Has the OP indicated who his clients are and what type of shooting he intends to be doing over the next year?
This might inform his decision much more than buffer rates, and memory card speeds.

I would go for the FS100 too if you can deal with the ergonomics. I eventually sold mine because I couldn't.

You mentioned full-frame...ever check out the Sony VG900?

You have a T2i...do you have any Canon lenses? Many people like to stick with a body that supports their lenses, but there are smart adapters too..

My advice to you would be to wait a little bit more and see what comes out. If you definitely need one now, you only have a few options for a larger sensor video camera...and most of them are in this post...

Asking the internet what camera you should buy means you don't get to call yourself a cinematographer yet. Someday, perhaps...but not right now.
