What Camera should I buy? Canon XHA1 or Panasonic HVX200

A1s has a few functional changes such as a six pin firewire port and the ability to zoom and focus at the same time. Other than that it's the same camera.

I love my A1 and my HVX200a. If your doing events or might do events, then A1. If you are only doing narative work then HVX/HPX. The A1 is a lot more well built and has some cool features (which were already mentioned). HVX has under and over cranking and one shot functions. Also, much better for post with its 4:2:2 color space (as mentioned).

Whats everyones secret with the HDV and CC? The whole reason I got a HVX is because I could'nt get my HDV footage to do what I wanted without it falling apart. How do you set FCP2 it to capture Pro Rez?

Yo I was in the same boat your in 8 months ago.... I went with HVX, couldnt afford p2, saved up and got 2 16gigs. This camera is so freaking awesome dude, get the right scene file settings and its unstoppable, the A1 cant compare, you have so many options with the frame rates its stupid. I absolutely love this camera, if you film action sports the native slow mo is soo damn sexy!

check out this video i shot with the hvx... HVX snowboard montage

go with the hvx

If anything, I actually prefer to CC A1 footage over the HVX because the HVX exhibits splotchy noise level while the A1 (while having roughly the same sensitivity) has a much finer noise structure that's not as noticeable.

I wish I had read about this before I swapped my A1 for an HMC150. The HMC150 is great a cam, but learning to get around the noise has been interesting.
