What are your computer specs?

I need to buy a new computer and was wondering what people are using to edit their 7D/550D material. Could you please list your specs and any problems (or lackthereof) you have, so I can get a better idea of what I need.

Thanks in advance.

Core i5 750 (quad) win7 64 bit 8GB ram
Vegas 8
I can edit files directly in vegas but I run them through MPEG Streamclip using the Avid DNxHD codec simply because people on here told me to. (I really can't see much differance in editing and CC'ing)

I've got an i7 920 with dual Nvidia 275's in SLI on Win 7 64 and 6 gig of ram.

Just got my SD cards so i haven't had a chance to really put the footage to the test but i don't forsee any issues though people have reccomended that i render out the footage into a 10bit codec, i'll do some tests and post my results.

I edit with Premiere Pro CS4... anxiously waiting for CS5!

Also i'll try editing on my laptop which is a Core 2 Duo with an Nvidia 8600 i believe and 4 gigs of ram.

Intel Quad Q6600 3Ghz - 4GB - nVidia 9600GT - Vista x32.

ZoomBrowser EX's movie editor is what I'm using (don't laugh) until 'real' editing software comes along that supports the camera's native h.264 without transcoding.

MacBook Pro late '08 (2.4ghz dualcore, 4gb ddr3, nvidia 9600gt m)

Other hardware includes a logic keyboard with all the FCP shortcuts screen printed onto it because I'm too lazy to learn them all by heart.

apple mac G5, 4 x 1 TB harddrive 3 at raid 0, 16Gb ram nvidia GeForce 8800 GT, 2 30inch apple monitors and I still cant figure out how to import footage on the right timeline properly lol :embarasse

MBP 2.8ghz, 4gb ram.. basicly the latest larger 15" from Apple (works for the largest supplier here in Sweden, they keep me up to date =)

I've got an underpowered rig, but still works just fine for editing video. It's a little tough when I'm in After Effects though.

1.6 Core 2 duo
2gb ram
4TB HD space
NVidia Geforce 8800 GTS

I plan on upgrading to 8GB's of ram and to a quad core CPU soon.

Mac Pro 8-core 3.0 GHz
12GB RAM
320GB OS X, 250GB Windows 7, 640GB Media, 2TB Backup.
2x ATi X1900 XT 512MB (Probably replacing with ATi 4870 1GB soon)

As you can assume, it handles HD pretty easily.

MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz
4GB RAM
320GB drive
Nvidia 8600M 512MB

Haven't had any problems with HD. Takes longer to transcode the 7D footage to Apple ProRes, but that's about it.

could everyone please post if they are editing the native files with there rigs or trans-coding to something else... odviously if you are transcoding to cineform or prores it is not really a good indicator of performance since a pentium4 from 2002 could edit these codecs!

probably most people are transcoding anyways as that is what you are SUPPOSED to do. Like I stated I can't really see much of a differance and I'm going to bet when people get faster machines the "rule of thumb" will change. But people swear that the files work better if they are transcoded so I guess I run with the lemmings and play it safe :(

Macbook Pro
------------------------------
Dual Core 2.4ghz
4GB memory
256MB 8600m GT

I can edit the h.264 files from the camera natively. But I always convert to ProRes.

I'm sort of with the crowd on this one as far as why I go into ProRes....but if you don't, Final Cut will write your render files into h.264 BEFORE you even do a compressed export to upload to Vimeo or YouTube, so I avoid an additional process of compression there by going into ProRes right?

AMD 64-bit Quadcore at 2.40ghz
8.00 GB RAM
Vista64
750gb 7200rpm
Premiere-->Aftereffects(CS4) using Cineform Neoscene
Nvidia card, nothing special. Has CUDA. 512mb dedicated.

Picked'r up from Bestbuy on sale in the fall for CAD$600. Couldn't be happier. Everything I edit is NeoScene 4:2:2. I can preview in real time in Premiere with an RGB curve and three way colour correction applied, plus a few audio tracks.

Core 2 Quad
4 Gb Ram
Nvidia 9600 GT
2 TB storage

I encode my raw footage to DNxHD for use in Premiere and AfterEffects. The codec holds up really well to the manipulations in AfterEffects and allows me realtime editing in Premiere. I don't use proxies and I don't render anything in the NLE until I have to make derivatives from my Master which is a Targa Sequence and an audio track.
