What are you listening to now ?

Ken Hensley, the keyboard player for Uriah heep and the author of this song, passed away this week. The song itself was immensely popular back in the USSR and was plenty pirated off the air, aka the shortwave broadcasts on Voice of America. I may have heard it once or twice on the old "rock album" FM stations in the US.

David Byron, a charismatic lead singer of the band, passed away from alcohol abuse at the age of 38 in 1985

The drummer here is Lee Kerslake, who also played with Ozzy. He passed away in September.

Unfortuantly, me responding to this bumps another thread. I always feel so bad about that but...
Uriah Heep. When me and bud were kids in High School we used to practice every day after school was out untill the point that people started asking questions about us hanging out so much together. People eh? Thier imaginations go wild. We practiced music every day. People couldn't wrap thier around around that. That's why I was the one that went to Mexico with the band at 17 years old, and had to expian to the principle why, and hahaha no-one believed me, and my brother Ian (dvxuser Arielman) said that a teacher asked him "Did Gord really go to Mexico?". Ian sais, "Yep he's done there right now."

I better digrees. Had a few beers. :):):)

Uriah Heep. Oh god. That brings back alot(!!!) of memories.:) Thank-you. Good band. I could share some stories about us kids practicing/learning those tunes in grade 9 and then performing on the high school stage. And then going to play regulary at the cathloic college a block away.
Anyways :) -fn beers man :)

The Grand Funk Live album was a classic and the one tape of an album before that, in a different style, still stays with me. I'll see if there's any on YT. (Survival album). Steppenwolf ofcourse. Oh, April Wine.

But wait. The 80's are truly back.

I somehow missed this one (wrapped in the moment for any given mood/situation). Good is good.

//Have you the public ever known anyone that every one hates? And try beings friends with them? I have. :) One homeless girl took me 2 years before she started liking me and talking to me. (I know I can't help everyone btw.) It's hard listening to others talk about them the way they do. And other woman that, yes it is hard to be a friend to them because they are very hard to understand/comprehend sometimes because of thier life style and mental illness,...what am I trying to say? Maybe simply "stop judging people as best you can and make an attempt to understand." I see this **** too much personally regularly and it's very heard to watch, listening to folks talking about them and I understand that they choose not to understand. :)

So now I want to hear a song about that...let me look around or if you have one already that'd be cool. :)

//
Not found yet but hey, the mans talkin and uh, just a crazy week and I need a break. -Cheers.

Ah, a bit of ... or a lot of nostalgia. "Pesnyary" was an officially sanctioned folk-rock band from Minsk during the Soviet era. I saw them live twice. Tickets were hard to come by. I posted some of their numbers before. This one from 1975 is simply called, "Belarus", with words like, "My youth is Belorussia" ... which indeed was the case for me. Not that I want to go back.

This fellow Sergei puts together nice clips, inserting photos in accordance to the song theme. So, if you're never seen Belarus before, you can catch a few glimpses here.

Ah, the Soviets loved this Neil Sedaka tune.

And this was one of the Soviet tricks - to release a cover by a performer from a friendly socialist nation because they couldn't get the license for the original composition.

And another band from Minsk, doing a dixieland version of a previously recorded tune, with a few bars from Kalman's "Ganz ohne weiber geht die chose nicht" thrown in for good measure.
