What are you listening to now ?

Focus, live on the Midnight Special. To quote Gladys Knight, "they got it together" (60's slang)

And, as I had mentioned earlier, T-Rex's was one of the first albums I had on my reel-to-reel.

Also, from the Midnight Special.

And live in London (1972)

This was later covered by "Violent Femmes"

Sort of wanted to post it last night ... sadly, it's more appropriate today.

With David Palmer on lead vocals.

Oddly enough, Emmanuele is available on YouTube for $1.99.

Here's a theme song (if I hadn't posted this yet somewhere else), which was a huge hit in Europe.

And more of the Euro pop from the Netherlands of the 1970's.

And a bit from Scotland

And a bit from Germany (en Inglese), doing an "arrangement" of American tunes.

And the French (Lebanese).

And the Greek

An odd trivia fact - the lead singer/bass player Demis Roussos came to LA in the late 70's to become a star here but instead ended up staying at an LA weight loss clinic, as he was suffering from extreme obesity. On the other hand, Aphrodite's Child keyboard player, whose real name is Evanghelos Odysseas Papathanassiou (aka Vangelis) became a renown film score composer and performer.

She may have been An American Girl, but he was my hometown homeboy- went to school with his brother, lived 5 blocks away, saw them start off as Mudcrutch, then saw him for the last time in May on the 40th anniversary final tour.

RIP, Tom- 66 is way too early.

I guess it was Time To Move On (from Wildflowers):

"It's*time to move on, time to get going
What lies ahead, I have no way of knowing
But under my feet, baby, grass is growing
It's time to move on, it's time to get going
"

Tom Petty used to shop at a small consumer electronics store where I worked in the first half of 1994. I was just talking to a friend who was there Tom came in. I say, "You didn't even know who he was". The reply, "Yes, I did. He was just too normal acting, so I thought it may have been someone else". We had quite few celebs walking in and "acting normal" definitely wasn't the "norm".

PS. When "Refugee" was released as a single in 1980, it sounded a little more personal to someone who actually was a refugee, even though the word/song title was used as an allegory. And, as a minor aside in the grand scheme of things, the band was getting a little more attention in Wisconsin, where we lived at the time, due to Howie Epstein.

Oh this is getting strange- not "dead", but "brain dead" and "clinging to life", following a misstatement by LAPD.
Dead, but not quite yet...

What a strange way to go for a guy who really epitomizes(d) the rebel in rock. Fought the Hollywood music industry and won, including getting his publishing rights back, then fought them again when they wanted to raise the price of records to the astronomical price of $9.95, and won again.

Is the fighter in him still fighting? Gone, but not yet?
Oh, what a way to go...

Watching, of course, the incredible 4hr Petty doc
Runnin' Down a Dream. 2 hrs tonight, 2 tomorrow night, when his final status may be final...
