If the store had cable, we'd have the MTV on a bunch sets but most managers preferred to play laser discs on a "close circuit" system, so we'd have a clean signal and a higher quality input. And the salespeople were less distracted to watch the Top Gun for the three hundredth time.

Thw Les Humphries Singers were a fairly popular Germany based group put together by the Englishman Les Humphries and designed to cover popular US and British songs in the non-English speaking countries. Les was likely sued more than once for plagiarism.

A Facebook friend posts a YouTube link to "ten foreign songs that were once very popular in the USSR". I scan it - no "Shizgara" - and then YouTube suggests a compilation video of the top Soviet bands from the 70s and the 80's. And the funny thing is that my friend was in one of those super popular Soviet bands.


PS. If anyone reads this - who can guess what "Shizgara" was?

PPS. My friend was actually in two of those bands.
