What are you doing today?

Ok guys, I think I am going to have the coolest day tomorrow. I am going to fly out with the rescue helicopter team tomorrow. (Saturday) I have worked lots of calls with them and managed to get some of their take offs on camera. The pilot caught me doing it once and lifted off, hovered for about five seconds, then banked for me as they flew off. So, tomorrow, camera in hand, I will don the filght suit and ride with them for 12 hours. I'm pretty excited about it but I think they are too. I know it's morbid, but I hope we get a good call. (for non-EMS persons this would be a bad call)
I'll post what I get.

If you don't already know yourself in this way... take some Dramamine... not on an empty stomach either. Have a "normal" breakfast... something easy on your stomach. I used to fly a lot and there was a big difference between normal flying and flying while running a cam. If you're trying to get good shots on the approach, take-off, or pretty much anyplace inbetween then you'll be prone to motion sickness... unless you already know for sure that you are one of the lucky millions who don't get it... I'd prepare to avoid it.

I could fly all night with no problems whatsoever... it was actually boring in fact... but shooting for only 5 minutes in turbulent air was enough to make me puke.

In Canada editing on this system..

hurray....!

I was taking the computer apart..thats y they not there...usually theirs a main HD comp and another for storage...over 2.5 Terabytes of space cuz they networked together.

BE CAREFULL!

Helicopters are very dangerous if not treated with upmost respect.
In the heat of the moment of shooting, even highly experienced crews can make mistakes that cost lives. You hear about video + film choppers going down all too often.

To me, the pilot taking your shooting into consideration and changing his take off is a big red flag.

Make sure that they do NOTHING special because you are on board in terms of flying. Non of this "oh can we go a little closer/lower/faster/tighter" crap.

That beeing said, a helicopter can be a very cool shooting tool when used carefully and they are a fun experience to fly in. Just don't take any risks.

Be safe, and please come back tommorrow night, and tell us all about it.

- Mikko ... will not shoot from a helicopter. Ever. Period.

O.K., fine. I'll just be me and go back to reading my book.

Going to the opening of friends' new badass night club in a few hours. Made a presentation DVD for them a couple of weeks ago to show to sponsors, will see how well it worked.

DBoz, whatcha editing there, in Canada? And why are you taking someone else's computer you're supposed to be editing on apart? :cheesy:

Drinking espresso, reading the Vegas DVD Architect 3 manual, rendering out a project, taking a Rug Doctor to the living room rug, doting on the kids, drinking more espresso, going to mom's for dinner.

Next week it's off to San Antonio for a two week docu shot on F900 and HDV. Good stuff.
