What are my workflow options?

Generally speaking,

I don't think the CitiDisk HDV is best suited for the HVX. I believe the CitiDisk HD (a totally different model) is specifically intended for use w/the HVX. I had one as a loaner and ended up returning it because it was just too quirky to rely on. I suspect some would warn you to buy with caution, if at all.

If you search the forums here you may find very few comments supporting the various CitiDisk incarnations, and while they are based on a useful idea, their implementation and use is most often described as "arcane." While some buyers seem to have had some success with them, overall they haven't rec'd good comments and seem to need further development.

The most popular alternative is certainly the FireStore FS-100. More expensive, it's likely, but apparently much easier - and more reliable - in use.

For those with budget limitations (which could well represent a majority) the upcoming CinePorter (due sometime this summer) seems to be worth the wait. That's what I'm waiting for. Meanwhile, I record to P2, offload to a firewire drive as necessary, then transfer from firewire to my NLE. If you can afford the FS-100, that seems to offer the best bang for the buck.

FYI, CitiDisk's publicity company won't give me a unit to review for my magazine until NAB. They have a major upgrade being released then. I suggest you wait and see how it works out. So far, it's been a very problematic device. At this time, it won't even record to MXF format! Go figure! But we'll see what they do at NAB.

I use the FS-100 and love it.

Another possible option is one of the nNovia products. I've been told they recently (and for some reason, very quietly) added MXF functionality to one or more of their products, but I've been unable to confirm that. You'll have to research that more, as I'm speculating based on what amounts to little more than rumor.
If you find something worth sharing, please do.

Just checked their web site, none of their products does MXF. Just DV25 and HDV. If they added it, it's a pretty tight secret.
