Well, I did it. I pulled the trigger!

Thanks all of you whole contributed to my multiple threads concerning getting a new computer. I am surprised how it all ended. Just like that. I found the right thing at the right time. 'Course, we'll see how it works when I get it. But now that the search is over, I feel so much better. Now I can get back to work!

Anyway, I managed to find, YES in a notebook computer coming in under 9 lbs...

-T7250 Penryn CPU: 2.5 GHz Core 2 Duo with 800MHz FSB and 6Mb L2 Cache!
-4G RAM
-NVIDIA 8600 GT 512MB
-400G HDD, RAID 0
-DVD RW Dual Layer
-and a shiny dazzling, yes, 1920x1200 WUXGA 17" LCD!
-not to mention, has HDMI output, and all the necessary I/O (fw, usb) including 54mm Express card AND PCMCIA slot, S/PDIF out (whatever that is) and S-video in.

...and it all came in at the goal $ mark, 2500. Remember, this is my MAIN computer for all my editing work, and to allow for growth, so I didn't want to jip myself with far less than the power I would've wanted in a desktop, "just because it's a notebook". Took some patience, but I think I finally found something of a MBP rival, at a cool pricetag. I can always swap in a Blu-Ray burner later when time is right.

And I have these boards to thank for alerting me to this swanky new machine that just came out! So, for those of you who followed my previous threads, I didn't go with Alienware after all........ any guesses what machine I got?

Now it's done.

Yeah!

Yeah, I can't think of it. I want to say Lenevo, as it was stated to give the MBP a run for it's money...hm, is it?

ha. I didn't mean to create a whole mystery. Sorry. Actually, there was a thread on here which I found the other night, I forget which forum, where somebody put up a link and commented that it looks like Sony has just come up with a laptop to rival the Mac. Well, it looked good to me, and I felt it had everything the others had but all in one computer (!) and a little cheaper. To get all the goods AND a nice 17" high res display was more than Lenovo offered, and with Dell I couldn't quite get it all together with the great video card plus the large HDD and RAID to boot. And, Alienware might've been solid, but even that great machine had a lessor CPU, bus and cache, and yes slightly more $$. But it's ALL here in the Sony Vaio AR (770?). It appears to be pretty new.

We'll see, but I'd like to show my pop that a laptop CAN do the job as well as (gulp) a desktop! At least for my purposes anyway. :)

And, yes, WildImagination- new toys indeed. I guess in this case, it's supposed to be more than that... it's my lifeline for this stuff! (off the subject, by the way, I watched your helicopter vid - very cool! Thanks for the inspiration!)

OH! I forgot about that Sony. It did look really good actually. When's it due to arrive?

Ships out to me March 11. I guess I'll be the test dummy for everyone here. (Appropriate title.)

I've never had a Sony computer before. I've done Dell aplenty. Always heard good things about the VAIO but never thought I'd be getting one (till now).

Thanks to everyone who put up with all my questions about CPUs, graphics cards, etc. I'm grateful for these forums. Great place for input & insights.

Haha, "poo pooing" is what the board uses to censor out certain words. I'm sure he meant something much nicer!

Oh, well in that case, how very thoughtful.

Well, then, I sure hope this system poo-poo's like a royal sphincter. (I guess I can say that, right?)

Whoa, that sounds really nice! I wish I had the money for that right now. My notebook is struggling a little bit working with HD :D

Hope it lives up to it's expectations! Have fun :)

I've got an older small vaio that is my "internet" laptop that pretty much goes every where I go. Its not particularly fast (its 2 years old), but its the most rugged thing ever. I've dropped it on to concrete twice now with no problem sans a few scratches to the case and it gets bumped, shaken, and covered in dog hair. Its a tad beat up looking but the screen is still pristine and there's not a thing wrong with it functionality wise. Next laptop a vaio will definitely be in the running, although those lenovos are pretty tempting....

Anyways, enjoy the laptop!
