weird questions about the Pana 20mm f/1.7

hey guys, I was thinking about getting the pana 20mm f/1.7, but I have some questions first!

1- I've read somewhere that some native lenses for m4/3 "comunicates" with the body to correct distortion and CA. I'm almost sure this is true for the 14-45 lens...( I hope this is not true with the pana 20mm )

2- If that's true, could I put something between the lens contacts and the body contacts to eliminate this? I would not care about losing AF...but losing the aperture control is a issue...

3- How is manual focusing with this lens? (feeling, precision etc) I would use MF 80% of the time...

thanks!!

1- Totally true for the 20mm, the lens communicates with Panasonic bodies for image correction.

2- Why would you want to do this? The body does a pretty good job correcting distortion and CA, unless you want to muck about in post with ACR/Lightroom or whatever.

3- Manual focusing is junk on this lens, it uses focus-by-wire so there's a slight lag between turning the ring and getting a change in focus. The ring also goes round and around, there's no way to tell if you've hit infinity or nearest focus.

Then again, the image quality rocks :)

yeah the manual focus isnt the best unless your very slow and precise when turning it, even then its kinda like not having real time focus... you focus it and then you can take your hand off the barrel and watch it catch up on the LCD :o)
"THATS A BIT OF A JOKE BUT ITS NOT FAR OFF BEING TRUE"

i find it really hard to land on what iam trying to focus on, i always overshoot it by a little and then have to backtrack.

ive learnt to accept this because i really like using this lens, nice DOF, lets lots of light in and it makes the GH1/GF1 alot smaller if you just wanna grab it and run out for some qwick and easy shooting.

ive just set up my follow focus on some canon fd lenses and it works a treat... setting it up on a panasonic lens is a lil more worrying as the infinite turn focus ring.

but yeah i love the little pancake lens, one thing it really made me notice was after using it for a few months i went back to using my kit 14-140 lens and i realised i bloody love that big lens :o) i previously hadent.

long winded reply that probably wanders off the point but iam new here :o)

About the question number 2, this only happens when you use Photoshop/Lightroom? how this works with video?

Thanks!

It's a nice little lens, I actually just bought it off Amazon warehouse deals for $175! Lucky find, it was open-boxed and there was a tiny scratch on the lens cover, I think they could've charged a lot more than they did.
