Weird pet peeves?

Amazon loves me. I almost never go into bookstores anymore...too many people in the way. Too damn many kids lying around drooling into books.

If I wanted used books, I'd go to a used book store.

Terra cotta pots dragged across rough concrete. Anyone want information out of me - just handcuff me and do that for about 120 seconds straight. I will compromise national security to stop that maddening sound.

Also, when you don't wash fresh spinach very well and end up chomping down on little bits of gritty dirt. I HATE that.

Tourists that dress like tourists.

Parents who are turning their priviledged kids into dorks and those kids when they think they're cool but are totally not self-aware.

Cheap-asses... on ANY level. I had a friend who bought a 250K house... single guy... throws himself his OWN housewarming party... we meet at a pizza place... he wants us all to steal cups for the party. The guy was a pilot in the majors at the time.

Girls who dress really sexy and get annoyed that we look at 'em that way.

Picky eaters... especially FAT ones. Even worse is when you're eating something healthy and they say "gross!"

People who use a complex word that no normal person would ever use... just to sound intelligent. Many radio talk show hosts do it... worse still is when talk show hosts are CLEARLY killing time and trying to extend the program by repeating **** over and over... or they say the same thing slightly different each of the 10 times in a row they say it.

Arrogance.

Anyone preaching advice that they haven't followed... i.e. hypocrisy. I especially hate the anti-drug commercials that stress the point of "never mind that you did a ****-load of drugs... so your kid will think you're a hypocrite... talk to them about drugs." Good advice yes... but if your kid knows you were a drug addict you already blew it. Was that such an "important" part of your past that you decided to share that with your kid? Good luck convincing him that it won't be an important part of his past too.

Brilliant observations Matt. I think I agree with all of them. I think someone should just publish all these random DVX pet peeves and sick pleasures into a book-> Insight into the Modern Internet Message Board User.

The chunky loser with the super-hot wife in sitcoms.

And regarding marketing... modern marketing IN GENERAL. Promises are out of control. I really like the promise from each Ford Employee where they promise us they're going to build good cars. Where the hell were you when I had to get a new engine at 80K miles? Or when you had my F150 for a week and told me nothing was wrong with it just before the warranty ran out?

Promise the world and then who gives a ****... if you can just convince somebody to try your crappy product one... more... time.

How about ads that say "We'll beat any advertised deal or give you ten thousand dollars!"

Locally an electronics store features a brand new Volvo and you get it for free if they don't give you the best price on a TV.

"Have you driven a Ford... lately?"

That's the funniest ad quote ever... "No really... we got it right this time."

That is so Kool.

Ok, tried to search the treads and "bump" was too short or common to be searchable so I skimmed each page of this thread hoping to not duplicate, so here goes.

People that "bump" their own threads within 24 hours of posting them. Even worse. People who "bump" their own threads within an hour or two of the initial posting. Jesus Christ, give people time to read them. (Of course we might have read them and don't care. We read it and found it useful, interesting, or funny but had nothing to add. Or we are trying to be polite and not tell you your post sucks).

ok, i hate when im getting my haircut and the barber leans forward only to place his nuts on my hand holding the arm rest under the cape thing. I sit there and its like ****, get off my hand. When I was younger i had a woman that always cut my hair and she did the same thing and even though it kind of turned me on, i didnt dare finch a muscle afraid that she would think i was trying to finger her or something.

oh dude, i hate that. yeah, like they're gonna give you money instead of making a little less. "if we can't beat the price, we'll give it to you free" BULL

on the sales subject, when you go into a store to shop and get bombarded with "can i help you?" and every time its: "no, i'm just looking" stfu and let me shop. if i need help, i'll come to you.

To revisit an old thread... I get really pissed off when people post back to back in a thread.

I think that is what the edit feature is about. I don't know why this pisses me off, but it just gets on my nerves like nothing else, and this seemed like the right place to post that feeling.

Heh heh, Mikko...

Brandon Rice, he's calling your name. :)

Good idea for a thread.

I feel bad for things left alone. Example: If there is one piece of corn left on my plate I must eat it, or find it a friend (maybe a pea or a lima bean). I don't like to throw anything away that's alone either. If a pencil is broken I will throw it away with another broken pencil. So it doesn't feel bad I guess. :) Do I have loneliness issues? Probably.
I have a friend who will not eat the last of a serving being passed around. For example: the basket of bread is being passed, and there is one roll left- she will not take it!
There's a superstition that if you do that you will become an old maid (ladies at least?!?) and she is single so she steers clear! hah

So I made it through the whole thread and didn't see these things that bug me. (And I am going to tip toe on eggshells now not to do the bad things!! hah!)
1. People chewing ice- it gets me like the nails on chalk board. Guess it's because I have sensitive teeth.

2. People that are rude for no reason at all- like when I was waitressing and clearly taking a tables order, I returned to a table and asked a guy "How is the beer?" (Making a bit of small talk before I took his order) and he literally says "Cut the small talk and take my order." Yeah, I'm sensitive and that poo poo is just unnecessary.

3. Escalators.. well particularly when people don't stand to the right on them. I have seen this properly executed in Europe, but I don't think anyone knows about this etiquette in America. I must inform the nation!

4. People driving on their cell phones- at least when they are NOT using the headset (although those are creepy too)... Especially when the people are Moms in SUV's with their child in the passenger seat. .. . I mean you can't be setting a good example. (Also parents driving way crazy on a windy freeway!)

5. Rich people that think they are too good to be nice to people. Not all rich people are like that.
^ Goes along with going into an expensive store, and because you are in jeans and a t-shirt the workers ignore you and treat you like poo poo. (My brother inlaw said in England he would put on a suit to actually be able to get attention in some of the stores he liked)

6. Holding the door open for someone and them not saying "Thank you." I don't hesitate to just say "YOU'RE WELCOME!"

7. The Welch's juice commercials. The little girls almost like satanic.. at first I thought it was cute, but it seems creepy

C. That joke people make during speeches where they're numbering a list, then all of a sudden use a letter.. .what's up with that?
That's nice to let all that out!

That's one of those California things... New York has it down! It's worse, in LA, cause people block everything, not just escalators. Slow walkers (i.e., Californians) block sidewalks, passageways, doorways, with no clue. People double park in the middle of the road rather than close to the side... and if someone's double-parked on the other side, they'll choose the same spot, so there's no way through. Everywhere, people just sorta stand around not realizing they're in everyone else's way...

Glad to see this thread making a comeback.
