I'd be interested to know if a "Things We Love" thread would grow as quickly as this has.
Pet Peeves:
1.
The feel of cotton balls. There is something disgusting about the way it crunches between your fingers. If anyone near me has a cotton ball between their fingers I get goosebumps all over my skin, no joke.
2.
People who push their cart down the left side or center of the aisle in the grocery store.
Why is it we can all manage to stay within orderly lanes on the road but our minds break down when we get into the produce section? If we followed the same rules in the grocery store we'd all get in and out a lot faster.
3.
Waiter who remove your plate the milisecond you have finished eating.
My most extreme example with that was having lunch with my wife recently. I picked up what was left of my sandwich and the waiter pulls my plate out from under me on his way back to the kitchen. So I'm left with a sandwich in my hand. I suppose he thought I was about to finish?
4.
When customer service people or managers use the phrase "We can't do (blank)"
Example:
"We can't replace that, but we can exchange it"
"I can't do anything about that"
People need to learn that "can't" and "won't" are two VERY different words.
And if we were all to speak honestly I think the word "can't" wouldn't be used nearly as much.
5.
I hate the fact that the internet has blurred my definitions of communication.
I often catch myself saying "I was talking to (blank) the other day..." only to stop and realize that I'm talking about instant messenger or email. I fear for the future of interpersonal relationships.
6.
The phrase "pre-owned" when it comes to used cars.
Actually, any marketing new-speak for that matter.
7.
The marketing of catastrophes and wars in the media.
I'm sure you can see the graphics now....
"Disaster in the Gulf"
"Terror in New Orleans"
"Mission Sadaam"
It cheapens the actual event and the people involved.
8.
I have a bad habit of doing this myself, but I can't stand it when people use "how are you?" or "how's it going?" as a salutation. Why ask if you have no actual interest in finding an answer?
It makes me feel shallow and rude everytime I do it.
