Weird Nikkor lens focus rings?

I just snagged my dad's 50mm 1.4 Nikkor lens off of his old camera to use with my GH1 and I noticed that it's focus ring is opposite of all the rest of my lenses, even my other old nikon and canon glass. Anyone know why it's like this? It's not really an issue, just makes using my follow focus really weird when switching lenses back and forth.

Nikon focuses opposite everything else... your other nikon glass should be the same direction for most lenses. You Canon lenses should go the opposite.

Well, Nikon (I believe) was the first bayonet mount for the mass market, so "everyone else" is backwards (note that their lenses mount the opposite twist from Canon as well)...

On the plus side, that's why there's so much Nikon stuff that's still useable - the F-mount came out decades ago, I'm thinking like the late 40's.
