Weird Issue When Plugging Mic Into 7D (no preamp) Is This Normal??

i know that the canon 7d has auto gain control, and i am having a strange issue....

i plug a basic microphone, with a mono 3.5 mic pin adapter, and plug it in....now i record something and when i listen to the video file, its in stereo, and its loud and all noises all around the house are picked up exremely loud and messy....even in a quiet room and saying nothing, i CANT hear the auto gain control go up or down...

however, there is NO static, and NOT fuzz...and its in stereo.??

now the next time i record, i wiggle the connection going into the 7d, and as i am wiggline it or very lightly pully on it to the left i noticed that it cut to mono on the recording...almost like a short or something weird...

so i did another recording, while lightly holding the adapter piece to the left....and start talking, and there is fuzz and when i talk, the audio cleans up, and then when i am quiet, the fuzz comes back...

just like it supposed to, when i recorded something yesterday it was in mono like it should...

this is very weird and it seems disfunctional.....

any thoughts?

i just ran the microphone 20 ft away from the camera and blew in it hard so that it would be impossible for the camera mic to pic it up....

no sound...none whatsoever

You are plugging a mono plug into a stereo port. You may at times be shorting the mono plug into the right and left (or both channels).

If you look at a stereo plug, and compare it to your mono plug, you can get an idea of what is happening.

even a stereo plug doesnt work, anything that i plug into it, has to be moved around to work, its shorted out i am sure of it....
