AC90: Weird Ghosting when played through monitor

If shooting indoors, I don't think a shutter of 50 is a good idea for 24p. I'd use 60 instead unless the lights don't flicker. 48 would be ideal but I don't remember if it can do that. It's weird to not have a 48 shutter option.

1/48 would cause scrolling lines if shot under magnetic-ballast fluorescents, the same as (or slightly worse than) 1/50 would. 1/60 would eliminate the issue entirely.

1/50 is the default shutter speed when choosing "shutter off".

And no, double-images and ghosting are most definitely not normal for an AC90!

I haven't done any serious tests with my new AC90. Heck, I'm waiting on a memory card to be delivered before I start recording. But I have noticed some "ghosting" or slight motion blur on the camera's flip out screen. My Canon Vixia M41 shows a similar effect, but not quite as pronounced. Something tells me it might be an artifact of gain being applied to the image. Or maybe something to do with the backlit CMOS sensors. I know I don't see anything like it with my DVX100b which uses CCD technology.

Yes, quite a bit. It's mostly all I shoot, is 24p on various AVCCAM cameras including the AC90.

Someone suggested it might be a noise artifact. Real easy way to check, take it outside on a bright day and then see if you see the ghosting issue. In sunlight it'll definitely be at 0dB of gain and there won't be any noise reduction being applied, so that should rule out whether that's a concern or not.

Thanks everyone for your feedback on this!

After 45 days of waiting, I received a new camera from Panasonic.
The one thing I don't understand is that they where saying that the image produced by my camera was normal for the AC90 and this was motion blur. (which it was absolutely not, I know what motion blur looks like).
Because I insisted and provided them with clip examples clearly showing that the footage was unusable, they ordered a new AC90 to do a side by side comparison which caused all the delays.
In the end they shipped me the new camera but I am so frustrated with this experience that I am going to sell it and will most likely never own a Panasonic camera again.
This has been my worst customer service experience ever and all of that for a sub $2,000 camera!

Cheers

Dang not a good thing to hear. I've not had your particular problem yet so I am very surprised it expected for this camera. I mostly shoot 60p but I've done several shots with 24p and I've not seen your problem crop up. I have had a couple "one ofs" where camera would not go to 95 on manual focus (off/on fixed it). And I had a clip I shot which was soft and grainy, despite knowing I used focus assist and focused. It was shot outdoors full daylight with an ND filter on. I was just shooting a trained large bird about 25 feet away and I moved and the bird was like 15-20 feet away. Focus wasn't the main problem, it was more a huge change in grain. Again both of these situations only occurred once.
