Hi,
Since nowadays DV cameras offer a good picture and 25p, I've been using them often.
Anyways, although the picture of these cameras come close to that of 16mm film, there has been a characteristic that nerved me whenever I took handheld shots.
It's quite obvious to recognize the difference between a shot that was taken with a 2-3kg camera to one of a 10kg. I'm not saying that the "vibrating" shaking of a light weight camera is "bad"- I want to point out that the dynamic of movement of each format is completely different for a certain purpose. While a small DV camera used handheld offers the ability to create scenes of a very realistic type(journalistic approach)- heavy film cameras produce a sort of flowing, dull and softer movement... those we all know from most movies taken on film.
So, according to the official data sheet of the RED Camera, which says it weighs about 7 pounds, and the aim of the RED Camera being the future standard of cinematography-
I would suggest a Shoulder Set that adds weight to the camera- so it matches the weight of modern film cameras such as the ARRI SR3. The weights should be detachable to fit any purposes needed; so the RED camera offers the ability to create two styles of dynamics through one format.
Best regards and :dankk2: ,
